“Nice castle, bad cashier ”

We have just visited the castle. It is rather impressive. Nicely done with stunning views, informative displays. It is really well worth to visit. These are the positives. The cashier in the ticket office on the other hand is down right upsetting and rudeish. I happily support the protection of historically significant buildings, but the ticket for the castle was on the expensive side considering being in rural Hungary and considering what it had entailed. After the man at the office took payment, he mentioned that the 4 in one ticket is much more value for money, and he asked til now everyone apart from us wheather they would like to buy that one. Thanks! On the hindsight I wouldn't have minded a bit of heads up that to visit the castle with young children is slightly dangerous.

Gyula is a beautiful city. It is famous for a few things and these are the Spa, Sausages, Palinka and a Castle. We were delighted with the beautifully decorated buildings, squares, streets. Next to the Spa and Csigakert is magnificent and unique Gyula Castle. More than 600 year old fortress. It is the only surviving Gothic brick fortress built on the plains of the former Kingdom of Hungary. It is situated at the side of a small lake, and is ideal for comfortable walking around the castle and lake. The Castle is equipped with a theme furnitures from history, the decor of the rooms is very nice and the view from the top is beautiful. But the beer and the palinka in the nearby rustic bar was a real pleasure. Very nice and worth visiting.

Highly reccommeded for castle lovers. It is not a giant complex as this is what was the keep of a much larger complex. It has been well reconstructed. It is only some of the exhibits that are a bit dated. Some of the rooms have been well reconstructed and furnished, though others are a bit empty. The historical significance is very great though if one has the time to immerse themselves in the history.
