Owner description: Guided tours of vast underground caverns started by the Romans, which provided Beer stone used in 24 Cathedrals, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, and many other historic buildings. See for yourself where and how the stone was quarried, the appalling working conditions and dangers faced by the work force, some as young as 8 years old. See too, the site of the secret Catholic Chapel and where smugglers hid their contraband. 2000 years of heritage brought vividly to life

We visited the caves today! At first we were worried as we had our young daughter with us! Who’s only 9 months old But was really reasured by staff to wrap her up warm and that if we needed to leave because she didn’t like it that we could! Have to say we had an amazing time and our daughter also enjoyed it! Dave was a great tour guide! He made it fun with his jokes and knowledge! Didn’t catch the name of the lady running the reception/ticket desk but she was a very lovely welcoming lady! Would recommend a visit! And the price is very reasonable! Thank you guys for a lovely visit!

We enjoyed our tour very much. The bats were an added bonus. The tour was thorough and informative and just the right length. Our children enjoyed it. The caves were quite a surprise as you start in a lovely wooded spot but are quickly underground in immense tunnels. Definitely recommend.

Read a few books about the smugglers in Beer so this visit was a must. The tour was very good the guide was very knowledgeable and was quite entertaining with his antidotes. YOU NEED A COAT it maybe warm outside and when you first get inside its nice and cool but the further you get into the caves the colder it gets !!

Not sure what to expect when we arrived at the Beer Quarry Caves....once underground with Dave our guide we soon got used to the damp air and the below 50 F temp...The guided tour lasted about an hour and Dave made the tour really interesting ....our grandson is 9 and Dave managed to involve him in the tour as much as possible which Harry really enjoyed ....don't take my word for how interesting the caves are ..go for yourself and enjoy the tour

We have visited Beer several times before but until today haven’t visited the caves, I’m very glad we made the visit as they are fascinating. The caves are situated about a mile from Beer centre so we decided to walk, there is a fairly steep hill on a country lane but we had no real issues with traffic. On arrival there a a couple of Portaloo’s in the car park area they are the only toilet facilities available but were very clean. The reception area is a cosy area that also sells souvenirs and refreshments that are very reasonably priced and very good. The staff do mention several times that it’s cold in the caves and it is! They do provide ponchos for those that didn’t bring warm clothes and I would recommend decent footwear as the ground is damp and a little uneven. The guided tour is well presented and very informative no hi tech iPads or headphones just a very informative and cheerful local who makes sense of the different ways that the mining was done over the centuries. Overall a brilliant morning and one I would definitely recommend.
