Visited the Stanwick last week. The food was perfect, especially the steak. The team at the stanwick were amazing, service was great, nothing was a problem. Could not fault the food or service. Fab night thanks

Closed part of the week but essentially a pleasant village pub in front of an impressive village green. Somewhat modest selection of real ales - just two - which surprised me as it appears to have won a number of CAMRA awards. Pleasant staff and good parking

Travelling back from Edinburgh to Halifax on Sunday, the two of us decided to break the journey by stopping off at the Stanwick, which we've done before. Usually they have Sunday roasts on until 2pm and hot baguettes after. We arrived at 1.20pm and asked the barmaid if they were serving - we could see others eating. She said they were very busy, so we would have to eat in the bar area and have the Sunday roast, to which we agreed. We ordered 2 beers and she said she would go and ask the landlady. Unfortunately on returning, after we'd already got our drinks, she said the landlady and Chef could not fit us in unless we waited until after 3pm - an unacceptable wait of 1.5 hours before the next leg of our journey - they had a large birthday party in the back room and were too busy. I did say that if we were having the same roast dinner, what difference would 2 extra portions make, but was still turned down. Before leaving, I chatted to the bar maid again to see if we could at least get a hot sandwich - "a slice of meat between 2 slices of bread" was how I put it. She went back to talk to the Landlady, but the answer was still no. In all of this, neither the Landlady or the Chef came to speak to us personally, and used the poor barmaid, who tried her best, as a go-between. Needless to say, we will not be calling there again, and would advise anyone else to check availability before going - we could not book in advance because of the unpredictability of our journey from Edinburgh, but fully expected to be able to obtain some form of meal when arriving at a reasonable time.

We wanted to find somewhere decent for Sunday lunch when we were staying in Richmond and The Stanwick didn’t disappoint. We called ahead to book and it sounded very popular due to the limited spaces available. The pub was located in a quaint village not far from the A1 near Scotch Corner. The allow dogs in the bar area.

It was great to see 3 veggie options; veggie sausages, mushroom & brie wellington and spinach ricotta cannelloni.

The service from the staff was excellent.

My only minor criticisms would be the lack of a hot tap in both the gents and ladies toilets and the lack of veggie options for starters (on Sunday 11th February it was just Yorkshire puddings and gravy).
