“A relaxing holiday, experiencing the 'real' Spain.”
Reviewed 27 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Just got back from a ten day stay at Casita Olivar, and had a fantastic time. (16-26 August 14) Weather was fantastic at 35-38 degrees in the shade.

The traditional style Spanish Casita is situated in the family home of Nick and Rita an their extended family. surrounded by Olive trees, behind the electric gates of their property is their large house, Casita, pool, bar area and children's play area. It is a real home from home, having the privacy of your own Casita but with your hosts close at hand to help and advise with places to visit and things to do. Nothing is too much trouble and they really make you feel welcome.

My wife and I visited with our 12 year old twin daughters, and mixed a relaxing poolside holiday with trips out and about. We hired a car for the duration of our stay but we understand that Nick will act as a taxi to various places for a small charge.

The Casita has been recently renovated so everything is fresh and new and very well equipped. The large lounge/kitchen area situated upstairs has all mod cons, from a dishwasher to a large flat screen TV. It is obvious that they have gone the extra mile to ensure your don't want for anything. There is a lovely shaded balcony with a table and chairs that overlooks the beautiful countryside and the local village of Tocon.

Downstairs are two bedrooms (double bed and twin beds) that are very comfortable, bathroom and dressing/wardrobe area. Again the attention to detail is obvious, providing copious amounts of towels (including pool towels) hairdryer, hair straighteners, bedside lamps, alarm clocks, adapter plugs etc. For those of us with tablets and Smartphones, there is free wi-fi throughout the property.

The bar and pool area are right on your doorstep where you can help yourself to reasonably priced wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks and just put them on your tab. You can even have cocktails made. This is a relaxing area where you can play pool, listen to music or BBQ.

The pool has good quality sun beds to laze around topping up your tan and even a hot tub where you can have a late night drink.

There are a couple of mountain bikes, so I visited some of the local villages doing an 8, 15 and 18 mile cycle, stopping every few miles for drinks and tapas. It's amazing how you can fill up on free tapas just from buying a drink, which are cheaply priced in the Spanish bars.

During my cycle trips I visited vilages of Tocon, Alamartes, Illora, Bracana, Villaneuva Messia and Huetor Tajar, whilst my wife and children sunbathed and played in the pool. Nick is a budding cyclist and will also accompany you on a cycle as he did with me to Bracana.

Throughout our stay we went to the open market in Huetor Tajar which is a good morning out. We visted Granada, which is a lovely city, having drinks and tapas, looked around the shops and finishing with a lovely meal and Flamenco show overlooking the Alhambra Palace. We also went to Cordoba and experienced the lovely charm of this historic city and then to a Spanish horse show, which was amazing. On another day we drove to the beach of Los Boliches, Fuengirola, for a dip in the sea. (about one hour away by car). Some evenings we walked down to the village of Tocon for a drink in the several bars.

This was a fantastic holiday, combining the best Spain has to offer, great accommodation and perfect hosts. We would certainly recommend it.

“The beauty of Andalucia”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Along with our friends Tom and Sandra Cooper we have just spent 14 days at the Casita Olivar in Andalucia enjoying the hospitality of Nick and Rita Russell, Tom, Adel, Aiden and Katie Russell.

Finished this year the Casita is in the grounds of the Russell home and has everything you need to make your holiday comfortable, from a fully fitted kitchen, well equipped living area, comfortable beds and even towels for the swimming pool and hot tub were available. Thought has also been given to entertainment to suit all ages from a well stocked DVD collection, Wii games facility, pool table and a stock of games such as Jenga, Scrabble etc.

Guests have use of a bbq area, swimming pool, hot tub and a well stocked bar.

The casita is situated in the middle of olive groves with amazing views of the Sierra Nevadas. In walking distance of the village of Tocon which is home to a number of bars and well worth a visit to get a true feeling of Spanish culture. We found everyone to be friendly, helpful and very patient when we attempted our few Spanish words.

Nick, Rita and family went out of their way to make us feel welcome and ensuring we had everything we needed. For a small fee Nick became taxi driver on a few occasions taking us to surrounding towns such as Loja for the Tapas Trail and restaurants in Huetor Tajar where we had a wonderful meal at El Sitio.

If what you are looking for in a holiday is a good laugh with friends, somewhere comfortable to stay, sun, good food and drink, good facilities with exceptionally nice people looking after you then you would enjoy this location.

We are looking forward to going back a bit later in the year when the temperature has dropped a little so that we can visit Granada and Seville with 40 degrees in the shade on this last visit the best place to be was near the swimming pool with a cool drink!

“The Casita Olivar far exceeded our expectations in many ways”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

My husband and myself plus two friends booked a two week stay in July. The location is extremely peaceful and quiet and we soon became fully emerged in the local Spanish culture. The host family are very friendly and helpful and ensure that nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed full access to the swimming pool, hot tub and barbecue area and were served a full range of drinks and cocktails with access to a fully stocked fridge of cold drinks each day at exceptionally reasonable prices. The facilities are excellent including both bathroom and pool towels and a fully equipped kitchen.
We didn't hire a car, but were provided with airport transfers, travel to local supermarkets and restaurants at a nominal charge. Tocon is also with easy walking distance. The views are truly stunning and provide us all with the relaxing holiday that we all needed. We will certainly be returning.

“Villa with Tremendous Views of the Sierra Nevada”
Reviewed 18 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have just spent two weeks at Casita Olivar which is set in the grounds of Nick & Rita's private villa. This is a real family home with extended family Tom, Adele, Aiden and Katie whereby you are made to feel one of the family, but you have your own exclusive casita as well, therefore the best of both worlds.

The casita has everything that all ages would wish for, to please every member of your family, ours was a teenager and WIFI is a must ;), along with a good selection of DVD's, books etc. Crisp white linen on the beds with the option of a quilt for colder nights and a fan for the hotter ones; of which we had plenty with the general temp being 35 degrees +. The views from your own private terrace and I mean private are stunning, with the Sierra Nevada (still with snow on) and plenty of olive trees and the odd field of barley with some upcoming sunflowers. The furniture within the casita is of a good quality and better than your average villa accommodation from previous experience and a basic food parcel with necessities is available at your request as are ready prepared meals; again at your request and an extra charge.

The pool and bar area is immense, with a good selection of music DVD's and CD's (no need for your iPhone music unless you want a little solitude). The price of the drinks is extremely reasonable with a Spanish beer costing 1 euro and a spirit with a mixer 3 euros and a bar tab to be paid either daily or the end of your stay. Rita and Adele provide excellent bar snacks at a reasonable cost between 12-3 pm. The pool is of a good size and you are able to do laps as well as fool around, with a hot tub for relaxing in at the end of the day or during the day should you so wish as we did, as we used the bikes available to ride around the countryside. Although I am no pool player I loved playing along with both my other half, daughter and the two hustlers ;). Yep think I won one game!

If you want to adventure then a car is a must, however should you just want to do a little exploring local transport is good with a daily bus to Granada from Tocon (3/4 hour) and a train from Loja. You can also get to Seville from Loja (my understanding is 11/2 hours). Nick offers a pick-up service from the airport at an extra cost and all of the family are willing to take you places if you choose not to have a car, again at a reasonable extra cost.

“relaxing, real Spain stay”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this villa. It was in the grounds of the owners own home but they were very friendly and accommodating. The villa was spotlessly clean and with some great views of the olive groves and the Sierra Nevada. We hired a car, but hardly used it apart from the airport transfer as there are a couple of decent bars in the village just a 10 Mon walk away. We were lucky with the weather when we went but it did get cold on the night. Luckily the hot tub was available when we went and was perfect on the evening with a glass of cava.
Would definately return but would try a trip into Granada next time às found out too late about the bus /train links.
