We stayed in such a cute little log cabin which was so beautifully decorated that it made us feel immediately completely at home. The atmosphere at Flamingo Lake is so relaxing and it was a great spot to unwind! Although the lake wasn't full we saw and heard a lot of flamingos and it was heaven to get away from the city and just wake up to the sound of the birds.

The area is very peacefull and the lake is beautiful, however.
We found the place to be very very small, you can hardly move in any of the rooms. We had to keep some of our luggage in the car because there was just not enough space for 6 people. The small window in the 3rd room is extremely dangerous if you go with small children. The place is also not in Hermanus as advertised but quite a few kilometers from it. The braai area is at the back of the house which is completely inconvenient. Also very dark outside and very far from the sea - also advertised incorrectly. The pictures were very misleading.

Thank you for your feedback.
All the cabins are compact family holiday accommodation and have been cleverly designed to preserve that natural feeling of the bush and the endangered Milkwood trees and each room has a cupboard for short term holiday accommodation. With regard to the window, it is not a concern that anyone has raised, but thank you for bringing it to my attention.
We are part of the greater Hermanus area as are many other areas like Onrus, Vermont etc and the website does say that we are 12 minutes out of Hermanus. People really value being able to enjoy the nature the estate offers and being away from the hectic vibe of Hermanus and especially over the Christmas holidays!
It very much depends on the unit, some face the beach and some face the lagoon and are in the bush but none are more that a 10 minute walk to the beach and I am sorry you found it that far. All units do have outside lighting and most people enjoy sitting around a camp fire at night and in order the preserve the bush atmosphere and being totally in nature, there isn't a lot of street lighting. Most of the units were recently renovated with new photos put up on the website in November. The environment is always changing and the view depends on whether the lagoon has breached naturally or not during Winter and again at Log cabin 14, there are some pictures showing the view when the lake is out. The braai area at number 14 was especially built at the back so that when the wind is howling, as it sometimes does, it is still protected and you can still sit out and braai and it also provides shade if you are braaing during the day.
I hope you overall had an enjoyable time.
I have just had guests who stayed in the same cabin and who could not thank me enough - they thought it was absolutely amazing and so beautiful.

I really DONT want to write this review of our time in Lee's chalet at Flamingo Lake.......because then EVERYONE will know about this 'best kept secret' place......and we will never be able to get to visit it again!
But,in the spirit of altruism and sharing,I will tell you Lee's tasteful, beautifully equipped, spotlessly clean chalet is set on the edge of an exquisite lake. You wake up to see hundreds of pink flamingos (and if you lucky, wild horses too).....in the evening you have drinks watching spectacular sunsets over the mountain- fringed vlei.....and than you braai under an ancient milkwood tree.
Here, you escape from the push, pressures and pandemonium of the city to a place of simplicity, quiet and great natural beauty.
Plus,Lee is such a nice person to deal with.
But,please, please dont tell ALL your friends!
Sue.

We have enjoyed our stay very much, just too short. We did not see any Flamingos but did see a pair of African Oyster Catchers and an abundance of other birds (we are keen birders). The rondawel was lovely and clean and met all ours needs. The only negative was that our key could not lock or unlock the door from inside and the outside light did not work.

It was such a wonderful getaway! It was so peaceful and quiet with beautiful surroundings, close to the lagoon and the ocean! We really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely recommend it to everyone.
