“Excellent!”
Reviewed 24 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We recently rented Casa grande as small group and had a wonderful experience. The views from the property were stunning and the landscaping we kept up perfectly. The house itself was clean and well maintained.

Tom and Maria were great hosts. Tom was always quick to answer an email for a quick question. Maria made time for us late in the evening to discuss and book multiple excursions. They were very helpful and really went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience.

I would highly recommend renting Casa grande.

“Perfect Location for Adventure and Relaxation”
Reviewed 23 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

Our family had a lovely stay with Tom and Maria over the Christmas holidays. Spending time with our grown children is too rare and Arenal Springs Villas offered the perfect setting and layout for us to have family time and private time. We stayed in Casa Primera as the layout suited our family's needs. The view from the family room, dining room and kitchen were beautiful and the gardens are spectacular. Maria and Tom were very helpful before our arrival and during our visit, making recommendations and reservations (and saving us money), helping us put together a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The nearby restaurants are wonderful, especially Macadamia and Tinajas (hard to find, but worth the effort).

“What a wonderful place”
Reviewed 8 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We had such a wonderful time here! What a great pair of hosts are Maria and Tom. They made arrangements for tours and made sure we had the best time on our trip. We didn't had to worry about a thing. The property is just gorgeous. Everything was perfect. We already want to go back!!! Thanks for an amazing stay!

“A gorgeous house in a great area with a beautiful view.”
Reviewed 2 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

This house is one of many in the complex. It is the the best in the complex with an amazing view. It was very clean. The complex has a shared pool and this house has its own hot-tub. The pool - like all pools in the area - is heated by the sun and so the temperature will vary with the amount of sunlight available. It would have been great during the day but we were too busy exploring to take advantage of it! It was 'brisk' for a night swim.
The hot-tub was wonderful. The family soaked in it enjoying the stars and lightening storms off in the distance. I would recommend installing the cover so that when removed it didn't partially block the view of the lake.
There is a forest immediately behind the house and there is a very nice forest walk through the property. I did the walk at night but then a loud noise made me turn around, tail between my legs. The next day I checked my tracks only to learn the loud noise was made by a very large mammal on the adjacent property; a cow!
It is a very quiet and safe country oasis.
Be sure to pick up anything, including condiments, laundry soap and beach towels, you may need as the house is a rental unit and the fridge is cleaned prior to your arrival. A cleaner comes every couple of days so you can leave it to her to ensure the dishwashing soap supplies are kept up. Because the hosts are right on the property it is pretty easy to get toilet paper or paper towels as required.
The hosts were very nice and Maria is quite happy to help find local tours.
We went to the parks on our own. In this way you can save some money and tour at your own speed. In so doing we saw frog, snakes, millipedes, bugs, spider monkeys, coatis, etc. Mind you, we live in a temperate rain forest and so our senses are perhaps more attuned to where to look to find things in forests not too different from our own.
We visited La Fortuna daily. The drive there is an adventure in itself along a narrow paved road with beautiful views all the way. Travelling at night is actually easier as you can see the headlights of cars coming around the corner on the one-way bridges, so don't panic about getting home before dark. Watch out for bicycles after dark. For some reason Tico's don't like using reflectors, flashlights or even light-coloured clothing so as to be visible while riding their bikes in the dark! This is common through-out the country.
We strongly recommend going to the hotspring creek accessible from the public parking area across the street from Tabicon. It is free, extensively used by the Ticos and very unique.
Go see the Mistico, Arenal Volcano National Park and Proyecto Asis.
You don't need guides for Mistico or Arenal. Show up, go slow and keep your eyes open.
You don't need to take a tour for Proyecto either but you do need to make an appointment. You won't be sorry! Put on plenty of bug spray. This is NOT a zoo. It is a refuge. You'll be contributing to a great cause and if you pay the premium to volunteer, you'll be hand-feeding spider monkeys, birds and other rescued animals. We saw a recently released sloth as well as a Strawberry Dart frog here! There were about a million hummingbirds at the local feeders.
If you're a kiter or wind-surfer, Tico Windsurfing is a short drive away. Unfortunately, and unusually, the wind did not pick up during our stay. On the other hand we had great views of the volcano peaks!
Lava is not flowing at Arenal and hasn't been for some years but the volcano is stunning regardless.
Not much more to add other than to say we would have stayed longer, had the unit been available.

“Slice of Heaven”
Reviewed 6 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Our family stayed with Tom & Maria for our first visit to Costa Rica. They were just incredible! Their "slice of heaven" is breathtaking. The "casa" we rented was beautiful with all the comforts of home. The views were gorgeous from every window. The home was warm, cozy and very welcoming. Tom & Maria went above and beyond helping set up our tours and activities in the area. Our only regret is that our visit was too short. We are hoping to get back to that area again and will look no further that Tom & Maria's place to stay. Highly recommended!!
