Spent two nights at Xaluca Dades on our way from Merzouga to Marrakesh. This place is huge, and probably puts through several hundred people on a good night. At the end of a road running through a nowheresville neighborhood and adjacent to three massive cell towers, the only positive about the location is that it affords a nice view of the mountains from the pool area, as you bathe in the radiation from the cell towers. Upon arrival, after running the gauntlet of costumed singers out front, you will be met by a grumpy woman thrusting a tray of lukewarm tea at you. Unlike every other hotel we stayed at in Morocco where the tea/check-in ceremony was welcoming and friendly, here it seemed like a begrudging obligation. The room decor is strange- everything from the chicken wire shelving to the stone bed frames which were big enough to ensure stubbed toes in the middle of the night. The entire property is decorated in a failed Disney-esque way. Mealtime is buffet style. The food is adequate (won’t win any awards), but again, what’s noticeable is that the waitstaff appear as they’ve been sentenced to serve time here as a penalty. Water is extra, which was just another annoying detail added to the list.
Positives? Nice view and the hot tub feels great after a long day of driving.
Morocco has some amazing hotels, this isn’t one of them.
