“Surprise location”

Ruins of Shingu Castle
Reviewed 29 June 2017

We hadn't planned on going here, but had time so we did. The grounds were very nice and interesting. Many different levels, views and a huge variety of flowers were blooming. The locals take great care in maintaining these grounds and it was just one nice thing after another. There were a lot of hawks flying around and between them, the flowers and the bee's buzzing around it was very relaxing and rewarded us with many fantastic views of the city and river.

There are no structures remaining from the original castle. It is a nice place to visit in the spring when you have cherry blossoms and Wisteria flowers according to the brochures. Lots of stairs to climb. This attraction is quite close to the train/bus station, less than 10-minute walk.

The castle ruins are nice to walk around, but they really are ruins. You do get great views of Shingu City from the top, and it's a nice picnic spot. Tip: One of the best times to visit is in the evening, when the hanging lanterns are lit up.

Few steps to climb up here but nothing dramatic. The grounds are peaceful and a nice place to stop and sit on a warm day.
Just wander through, enjoy the views across Shingu. No entry fee.

Absolutely beautiful view and many cherry blossoms. Wonderful to see at night with all the Japanese lanterns! Great place for a picnic. The actual castle isn't there, but the ruins and base of it are. Just know that it isn't really touristy. It's more the 'locals' kind of spot. EXCELLENT views!!!! Not crowded at all.
