We stayed here only for one night because my boyfriend wanted to see Okishima - the cat island in Lake Biwa.

At first impression it was just another Japanese "business hotel", with bigger room than those in Tokyo. Only one receptionist (middle aged lady) could speak English, the other couldn't, but they were very helpful.

The next morning on our way to check out, we wanted to go early to catch a ferry from Horikiri to Okishima but after asking our way to the receptionist (a middle aged guy who spoke absolutely no English) we found out that the first bus to go to Horikiri port was at 08.40 and it meant we had to catch later ferry and it would complicate our schedule since we had to be at Kyoto station at noon.

He knew our problem very well and that we were sad to not being able to make it to Okishima, and he told us to follow another staff who was driving us personally to Horikiri. It was a five-star service although the hotel was not. I recommend this place to anyone who is coming to visit this place.

We spent our first night in Shiga prefecture in the Green hotel. The Room was very small by American standards especially since we had bags for a two week stay. Very clean with traditional Japanese beds and pillows. The staff was very helpful and we had a modest breakfast layout.

Budget hotel in walking distance of the station and the shops/entertainment area around the station. The Biwa lake is not anywhere close (8 miles).
The room is basic but clean.
An indoor onsen is available,
If you need a basic stay in Omihachiman this is a good option.

Stayed here while on a bicyle trip around Biwako. Owners/Managers were nice. Offered to let me park my bike inside (though I had not requested this) and took time to explain in detail my late night dinner options. Room was quite small and simple. Onsen-bath was simple. Pretty good "viking" breakfast for JPY800. Not luxurious accomdations but fine for a basic stay while on a bike trip. Multiple basic shops and restaurants around the station are within walking distance. Short trip by bike/taxi to see the Old Town and canal section of Omihachiman and the temple that one accesse by a rope-way. By no means is this luxury, but for JPY6000/night w/ breakfast it was a fine deal.
