This property is hidden in the mountains and difficult to access-hence the 4 stars, not 5. It is, however, one of the most magical and lovely places i have stayed. If you need nightlife and non stop adventure this is not the place for you. If you can make your own adventure there are plenty of things to do-a lovely swimming pool, some waterfall hikes, veggie and fruit gardens to explore and birds and butterflies to watch off your porch. If your villa has a view of the jungle you may even see some monkeys. Just a short walk away is a zip line canopy tour.
We stayed in a lovely three bed 2 bath villa with a fully equipped kitchen. This is important as you have to do most of your own cooking as traveling down the mountain to local restaurants is a big deal. Wifi was very comprehensive available even at the pool. Cell phone coverage was also good even on the jungle paths-a good thing in case of emergency.
We stayed for six nights and went down the mountain twice. The residents are friendly and accepting of visitors. There are fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs available at the village as part of your rental. This means with just bringing the staples up the hill you can happily stay for a while.
Just a mention of the road up the hill. It is about 7km on dirt roads and takes about 20n minutes, but that is not the problem. The problem is it is very steep and narrow. You hope you don't come upon another car on one of the narrow steep curves. It takes an especially strong 4 wheel drive to make the climb. OMV can recommend a rental person who has cars in their fleet just especially for OMV. We rented form them and were very happy. They even picked us up in san Jose and dropped us off as part of our package. Our car was a stick shift. I am not sure you could do the drive with an automatic transmission.
I realized by the end of our stay that although the drive up is a negative it is also a positive. It gives OMV a sense of 'other', of being apart from the real world. It keeps out casual tourists and makes it not worth the effort for those who might want to pilfer. Being this distant from the rest of the world and being a condo like set up creates a strong sense of community among residents. For instance, laundry is communal. There are free washers and dryers near the pool so residents and guests alike find themselves at the pool to do their wash. Pot lucks are common and we got invited to one where we met many part time and permanent residents.
A wonderful trip to OSA Mountain Village. Surrounded by jungle, woken up by the sounds from monkeys and toucans and other local birds. An enjoyable canopy tour. Easy access to beautiful waterfalls. Great bargain.
