“Delightful property and location, recommended to all beach lovers”

Got back a week ago and wanted to share some quick thoughts. Communications prior to arrival were clear, helpful. The cottage itself as others noted is very well equipped, and was in vey good condition upon arrival. It's ideally situated, just a few minutes walk from the beach. Weather conditions were ok, good enough for the family to hire out boards and wetsuits from the local surf shop, and go body-boarding many times. We managed to take in several trips to places like the Eden Project, St. Ives and Newquay (fabulous beach there). Can't say St. Ives was worth it personally, far too touristy/busy for my blood - returning to the solitude/peace of Portreath was very welcome afterward. Note that if you do visit St Ives, be sure not to try driving into it, get the Park & Ride option, otherwise you'll seriously regret it (luckily a previous guest pointed this out so we didn't make that mistake)! Parking next to the cottage was a bit confusing initially, there's not really any off-street parking immediately out front, you need to go around the side to where the garages are located and park opposite one of them near the centre (we figured it out eventually after going through the supplied instructions...) My only gripe if I had one was that we didn't see any Welcome pack when we arrived, although other visitors mentioned (in the Guest book) getting these, but this may have been down to the owners themselves being away on holiday, I'm not sure. Anyway, we survived ;) For food shopping, you won't find much in Portreath village itself, except for a very pricey small local supermarket (captive audience I suppose). Better option is to go to the large Tesco supermarket about 3-4 miles, and bulk-buy everything you need for the week. There are also various local pubs nearby within quick walking distance from the cottage that serve lovely food. And if you fancy a decent coffee, there's a great little coffee shop opposite the surf shop. Portreath beach was great, but note if you want to go into the sea it's strongly advised to invest in some water shoes (I forgot to bring mine), it can be quite stony and we all at various points managed to hurt our feet. And a wetsuit is essential.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Camellia Cottage and Portreath, and would definitely consider a return visit in the future.

Thanks very much for your kind and detailed review, some really good tips for future guests. Apologies about the welcome pack, it was missed by our changeover team, have asked them to add it to their checklist so shouldn't happen again.

“Lovely harbour side cottage in Portreath”

Situated on the harbour side and close to all amenities, Bakery, Cafes, Pubs, Ice-cream, Chinese takeaway, local shop.
Short walking distance to beach with long coastal walks in either direction. Cottage was well equipped for a home away holiday, including dish washer, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, iron, ironing board, etc, towels and bed linen included. We loved sitting watching the tide flowing in and out of the harbour or you could watch the sun setting across the beach from the landing window or seated from the front terrace. Lovely enclosed rear space. Level walking from the cottage to all local amenities albeit one slight incline but equally great for those more active, requiring walking or surfing holiday. My grandson made use of the board games and the WiFi connection and I read some of the books on Cornwall from the fully stocked bookcase, the TV had basic channels, but there is a dvd player if you wish to take your own dvd's to watch later in the evenings. Definitely looking to return to this idyllic unspoilt Cornish village.

“Camellia Cottage is a perfect holiday home in a perfect location.”

The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need in a holiday home. The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. The efficient central heating was much appreciated when we needed it. The location of the cottage is perfect being only a couple of minutes from the beach. We had a lovely holiday in Camellia Cottage and will be booking to stay there again.

Thank you Gail

“Fantastic location”

Excellent property. Right on the harbour with a brilliant view of the beach from the upstairs landing. The log burner was just what was needed in the evenings and the property had all amenities and really was a home from home. Very central to St Ives, Marazion, Falmouth and Penzance. A truly enjoyable week, and the weather was perfect for once! Highly recommend, and will definitely stay again.

Thank you for your review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay and you would be most welcome to come back again. The log burner and landing window are some of our favourite features of our Cornwall bolt hole so great to hear that others enjoy them too!
