“Confused Boarding”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We had to change planes in Chicago. United gets points here for super close gate to our connecting flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
The flight was late, Group 1 and to were finally boarding, the announcement for our group - group 3 - to board never came, so we boarded after waiting around for a while.
Everyone seemed slightly confused about the boarding procedure.
Service during the flight was OK, nothing outstanding - especially compared to our flight back to the States from Germany with Lufthansa, everything from the service to the condition of the plane just was a notch below on United.

My wife and I were scheduled to leave Punta Cana airport at 1:55pm, but our flight was delayed, causing us to miss our connecting flight in Newark. At the United counter, Juliette informed us that there was nothing available until the following day. We had become a bit frustrated but Juliette was very professional and accommodating. After some discussion with her, she made our reservations for the next-day flight, and we were provided lodging at a nearby hotel as well as food vouchers. We were quite satisfied with United's services and were well on our way home just a day late. Kudos to Juliette!!

Well, sometimes you get what you pay for. Our group of four adults had planned our Italian trip for 18 months. We shopped for airline tickets 330 days prior, and watched each and every day. One day we just by chance stumbled upon a economy class ticket on United with one connection through Newark bound for Milan. The cost for upgrading to Economy Plus with extra legroom, plus purchasing trip insurance, each ticket cost only $881 RT. So, we felt good about the purchase. Most tickets beginning the next day, and right up to our day of departure cost anywhere from $1200 to $1400. So shopping.....paid off for us. Still the plane is packed, seats are on top of one another, and the airline changed the type of plane, so our original seat assignments were completely rearranged. Aisle seats were reassigned as middle seats, sitting with our travel companions, then had us spread out over three different aisles. Additionally, United departed four hours earlier from ATL then the original purchased tickets, so it required us to arrive the evening prior and book two additional hotel rooms at an added cost so as to make the flights and clear TSA timely. Leave it to United International. I personally have flown on United over 600,000 miles over the years. It's gotten a whole lot worse over time. Good Luck !! Travel Safe.

While we sat at the gate and waited for "paperwork" to be completed on the repair of a screen used by the flight crew to communicate with each other (I guess), the storms in the area got closer . . . and closer . . . and by the time we were number two in line to take off, all "ramps" were closed.
The delay may have been inevitable - no one can control the weather, and there may be some regulation that dictates that even equipment that is not related to the safe operation of the airplane must be in perfect operating order prior to takeoff. But it came on the heels of being charged a total of $150 ($25 per bag each way, times three bags) for our carryon bags - apparently because we didn't also pay to check a bag. Not friendly.

Flight arriving to pick us up in Durango was 1 hour late.
Then a mechanical issue delayed us another hour.
By the time we finally arrived in Denver, our connecting flight to Kansas City had already left.
They did offer to put us in a hotel but indicated it could take up to 4 hours to get our luggage from one level of the Denver airport to another level where we could pick it up to go to the hotel. That would have us being transported to the hotel at 2:00am.
We had to be back to the airport at 6:00am to check in for the alternate flight home.
After waiting an hour for the luggage we decided to go on to the hotel. Then waited 40 minutes for the hotel shuttle. Had to go without our luggage because it still had not been delivered to the pick up area.
Due to the flights causing us to stay another night we were unable to spend time with our daughter and son-in-law who were in KC on Saturday night when we were SUPPOSED to be home. We had planned to have dinner and spend the evening together to celebrate Fathers Day.
Their flight was scheduled to leave KC on Sunday morning about the time we finally arrived. They had already had to go through security and we only had a few minutes to talk with them through a doorway.
In sharing our United delay story with others have heard that MANY no longer fly with United due to their inability to arrive and depart on time.
This will be our last flight with United.
