Our national airline may be politically and economically embattled but you'd never know it from the service. I flew return to Cape Town twice in 2017. The staff were friendly and professional. My thank you and smile to them was genuine appreciation.

international ticket issued from europe with airfrance having a connecting domestic flight with saa on jan 1st (star alliance group)
departed 2 pax with 3 checked in bags and 2 backpacks plus 1 trolley in 2.
all regularly accepted as x airlines rules
reached intl airport of johannesburg , had to collect checked in bags and re check in them but desk with 3 positions for this is empty...after different suggestions on where to go (SO DIFFICULT TO WRITE ON A BOARD WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE GONE??)
However time is tight but we eventually get to a desk of domestic airport where we re checked in our 3 bags (saa desk) and we show we have 2 backpacks and 1 cabine luggage with us. OK can proceed.
reached the DOOR of the aircraft we met mrs mpetsana who stopped us requesting us to bring on board ONLY ONE PIECE EACH as she says this is the rule (at re check in counter why this wasnt told?? and why airfrance accepting more than 1 piece each didnt allow us to finish our journey as we started it???
valuable staff was in the bags...but
WHAT REALLY IRRITATED WAS THE FACT THAT MRS mpetsana used A DIFFERENT CRITERIA with different walking in passengers!!! if its a RULE it SHOULD BE FOR ALL means EACH not one yes one no...this really was unacceptable.
so thank you saa for the trouble caused and for the good synergy of your cooperation with
your airline partners. a special thank is for mrs mpetsana who was cherry on top of the cake!

Its very good staff are very friendly. The food and stacks are excellent. I will fly with them if they price could be like Kulula.

Arrived at airport early at 10am to check in for our flight to Cape Town. On arrival, we were told that the flight was cancelled and we are booked in on the next one at 6pm. With our previous hotel a 2 hour drive away, we set up at a burger lounge for an 8 hour wait with a voucher so that we could have a coffee whilst we waited. No early warning email or text ... or apologies just a shrug. Even the later flight was delayed. Walked into next hotel at 9pm. A very bad experience but it was the third mechanical issue with SAA in a 10 day trip. Not good and definitely not again.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Aircraft interiors need a bit of updating. Seats have decent legroom.
