“No meal, for such a long flight”
Review of Finnair

Reviewed 16 April 2018

Cramped flight, of three-&-a-half hours' duration. Hardly any space for our hand luggage. No meal served.

I was relatively disappointed with my Finnair flight recently. For a major company, it was a surprise to find out that extra snacks and alcohol are at extra costs- don't think I've had this with any other big airline on a long haul flight! This was manageable though of course. The main issues was the noise. If you wanted to buy drinks you had to get out of your seat, walk to the back of the plane to purchase them. 4 loud middle aged men decided to hang around this spot, standing and talking incredibly loudly for literally 5 hours. This was all through the lights out' time. Myself and others I could see could not sleep. the staff did nothing at all. It felt inappropriate that these men were allowed to get drunker and drunker and were not asked to be seated at all. It felt as if the staff didn't care to be honest. Would only recommend Finnair if they are a lot cheaper than the other big airlines.

Was trying the Finnair as wanted to fly on the A350. They now use the A350 for most of their Asian routes. For flights to Singapore, the crew are all local Singaporean from their base there. Therefore, there were no Finnish crew at all on the whole flight. The service on this sector was great (the outbound sector from Singapore was not so!). The crew seem to know what to do and the service flowed well. Food choice is limited as it was a midnight flight. I picked the soup and salmon and finished with cheese and ice cream, The food has recently been revamped and tasted good. Choice of IFE is limited. The series that they have on the TV are rather old and not the latest. The range of films again are not the latest. As it was a night flight, I slept most of the way. The external cameras were great giving you a view of the ground below and the tail cam showed you where you were heading...I found this most entertaining. The cabin noise on the A350 is low and with the Bose noise cancelling headsets, it was hardly noticeable. Like the fact that the forward lavs have windows though not sure if going on the ground! Amenities were Marimeko designed and the slippers very useful. Seat is OK thought not the most comfortable. The tapering at the feet can be quite claustrophobic. The cabin lighting mimicking the Northern Lights was nice. All in all functional and efficient with friendly crew.

On long-haul flights Finnair uses the modern A350 XWB (started to be sold in 2015) and after your first experience with this aircraft other planes will make feel less comfort. extra large overhead lockers, bigger windows and ambient light will make you feel more relaxed than in any other planes even on the long flights. Just remeber, that finnear offers beer and wine with the first meal as complimentary, any other alcoholic drinks are for available for purchase.

Direct flight from Hel to SGN happens once a week. It’s definitely not crowded on the plane, only 1/2 seats are full. The food in Finnair is pretty good compared to other brands like Quatar, Emirate. But I like Finnair from SIN to Hel much more better, more spaces with more choices of food
