“Boutique airline?”
Review of Bangkok Airways

Reviewed 4 April 2020

I think that Bangkok-Samui flight is one of the most expensive in the world.

About 285 Euros (round trip) for a 50 minute flight.

All other Thai tourist destinations are reachable with less than half the money: I don't understand how all the entrepreneurs who work in the tourism industry of Samui can accept this thing.

The Airline justifies its prices calling itself "Boutique Airline".

???

Old and not top-cleaned planes; even the uniforms of the stewardesses don't seem to be last tailors.

With the fabulous Samui airport (owned by the company) and with the good ground services, I could have given 3/4 points, if it were not that due to the Coronavirus emergency we have had the need to move the return flight to Bangkok: not for fun, but because Qatar had canceled our intercontinental flight.

Given the situation, you can imagine our the tension.

Well, at the Bangkok Airways office in Samui, one of the employees was of a discourtesy, a rudeness so deliberately brazen. very smatterer. The young lady felt very important in her business suit and loved to look like a strict teacher behind her round glasses and seemed very annoyed by our presence.

We, with a four year old boy, were trying to return to our country in the midst of a pandemic.

This of course have given the coup de grace to our opinion on this airline

This is an ATR 42-300. It is a turboprop, not a jet. Seating is single aisle 2X2. You enter the plane by a rear door, about 7 steps. The flight is about 1 hour 15 minutes and they serve a small meal. There is no AV at all on this flight. The two member cabin crew were very efficient and courteous. Comfort level depends on your size, but generally it is good both in pitch and width. Bangkok Airways offers a lounge for all passengers so you can relax and have a snack before the flight.

It was comfortable both width and pitch although very tall people might be somewhat cramped. No AV on the flight. They serve a small meal, which is not necessary for the one hour 15 minute flight. Two cabin crew did a good job. Bangkok Airways has a lounge for all passengers to relax before the flight.

Have just come back from Vietnam and Thailand had several flights with Bankok airways Brilliant so efficient very clean excellent food even on a 50 minute flight from Phuket to Koh Samui we had tea coffee and a very fresh sandwich all for no extra cost but on all short flight we had with Bangkok airways they gave you food compared to budget flights in England where no food is free unless it is long haul. The air hostesses are pleasant and look very smart

Unlike other airlines with similar routes, Bangkok Airways is not cheap for a 20kg case and 5kg cabin bag, then add a massive $40 if you want to add another 5kg. Seats no better than others but you do get a meal and a glass of wine if that’s important to you.
