“So what else is defective on this aircraft?”
Review of Air Canada

Reviewed 5 weeks ago

Took Air Canada (AC) flight 342 from Vancouver to Ottawa on October 28, 2024. Direct non-stop YVR-YOW flights are rare in Canada so you grab what you can get.

First, their entertainment system did not work. My screen at 13A was white with a red arrow circling round and round. The screen for 13B was black. The crew "tried to fix" the entertainment system. It worked for 40 minutes. Then ALL seat screens were black for the remainder of the flight. What is wrong with the electrical system on board this aircraft? Who knows. AC does not say. Their Customer Care says they “apologize for the inconvenience”. Ha!

Second, the window between seats 12A and 13A had condensation between the acrylic panels because the seal was broken. Nothing could be seen thru the accumulated frost/condensation between. So what else is wrong with this 787 “Dreamliner”? Another who knows, not saying. This window problem was obvious before takeoff but never addressed. Leaves passengers wondering what else is wrong with this flying (for now) piece of junk.

Third, a "PRIORITY" tag was placed on my bag as I checked in at Vancouver. This is a joke, right? My bag was one of the last slammed onto carrousel #3 in Ottawa on October 28, 2024. This is "PRIORITY"? Nor was this the first time. My bag was in the final quarter of bags offloaded in Vancouver on October 22, 2024. This is hardly an 'oversight' or an 'accident'. It is a regular occurrence with AC. Their contract with the baggage handling company is a farce.

In summary, on one flight, AC 342, they managed to not have a functioning entertainment system, to operate an aircraft with a defective window and to ignore 'priority' baggage. That's three for three. Way to go, Air Cannot!

Average class of service, poor choice of inflight catering which was more suited for no-frills airline. The entertainment wasn't of great choice as movies were a bit old. Air Canada really has to work hard to match world class airlines. Avoid if you can

Air Canada Flights - A 15 minute flight, and it take 2+ hours to arrive at destination?

Nanaimo -> Vancouver - flight was already delayed by an hour, then just as we were on the active runway the pilot announced that we would have to return to the gate for more fuel, adding to the delay.
Initially based on our flight booking we had at least two hours to catch our connecting flight. We made it to the gate of our international connection, after the final boarding call was made. We barely caught the flight.
A 15 minute flight, and it take 2 hours to arrive at destination?

Vancouver -> Nanaimo - flight was delayed by one hour due to staffing issues.
Returning from an international connecting flight, once again we encountered issues. not only with Air Canada, also with Vancouver Airport. A completely disorganized operation.
Thanks to the incompetence or ineptness of Vancouver Airport Authority we could have missed a connecting flight, though as a result of Air Canada's delayed flight we were able to connect.
Here again we had two hours to catch our connecting flight, and could have missed it.
Our international flight arrived exactly on time (not Air Canada), disembarking the aircraft we followed the signs to connecting domestic flights, where at the check-point we were told to return and exit arrivals. Then given more runaround by airport staff, as to how we get to domestic departure for Air Canada. It took over an hour+ with staff misdirection to get to the AC counter.
When we finally did get to the Air Canada counter, we were told that we should have gone through the Domestic Connection??? Where we were originally, but got turned back
According to Air Canada the people staffing the Domestic Connections check-point were in error.
Now we have to go through security once again, and the whole nasty process, that could have caused us to miss our connecting flight, had it not been for the delayed connecting flight. Clown World.

At the gate we were told that they had issues with baggage, to much. Sky-check was not available. Therefore all excess baggage had to fit inside the cabin ... more delays. fyi ... the missing crew member finally arrived with excess baggage?

Avoid Vancouver Airport - a disorganized operation.
Avoid Air Canada - appears they are unable to clean up their act.

Would we recommend Air Canada: NO
Would we recommend Vancouver Airport: NO

The airline damaged my bag during my flight to my vacation spot. I submitted a claim on-line, which had to be done within 3 days otherwise it was not going to be honored. This meant I had to submit it while I was vacationing. The process was cumbersome, but not too difficult. Received a claim case number stating the claim was being processed. Fast forward 60 days and I still get the same status. I called 4 -5 times and the agent said there was nothing he/she could do but escalate the claim. During one call the agent said I should reply to the original email requesting a status update. I now have done this 3 times and not one return email to my inquiry. They cannot even provide an outlook date as to when my claim will be addressed.

My experience with Air Canada’s customer service has been extremely disappointing. I had a 14-hour flight scheduled for July, with a connection in Montreal. A few hours before my flight, I was informed that it would be delayed by an hour and a half, which I could understand. However, I was then told that my itinerary needed to be changed, and I was rerouted to fly with another airline, resulting in a delay of over 6 hours.

I have attempted to reach out to Air Canada numerous times—by phone (which was impossible, as I was only directed to fill out a form online), through Facebook (where my messages were read but never answered), and by completing the online form. I was informed that the issues were due to technical problems and that Air Canada would not take responsibility. I responded to that email in August, saying that I strongly disagreed, as I confirmed the original flight departed and arrived on time, but I have yet to receive a reply.

I even visited their office in person, but I was met with the same lack of accountability. I was told to communicate via email and that someone would get back to me soon, yet no one has resolved my issue. It is incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have spent four months trying to find a solution, only to be met with delays and redirection. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with an airline.
