“Only way to go”
Review of Air Tahiti

Reviewed 28 June 2018 via mobile

Literally, it was our only option to get from Moorea to Bora Bora, so we didn't have much of a choice. Good thing the plane, the staff and the whole flight experience was great. While my wife is not a huge fan of the smaller commuter/interisland planes, even she was impressed by how spacious the plane was and by how smooth our flight was. We even had drink service in flight. Baggage handling, loading and unloading of passengers and in flight accommodations were top notch. The best part of the flight, however, was the view. There is no prettier sight than the turquoise lagoon, luxury resorts and rugged main island that make up Bora Bora. Air Tahiti is the only practical way to see it from it's best vantage point.

Still recovering from a late night arrival, it was a pleasure to deal with an efficient, friendly and well organised carrier. The plane was a modern and very clean ATR and the 45 min flight was excellent. A refreshing drink was served on board. They managed to put us on an earlier flight than we were scheduled for which gave us more time in Bora Bora. They even phoned ahead to inform the resort that we would need an earlier transfer. Well done in all areas!

There was a small queue when we arrived at the terminal, but check-in was pleasant and efficient. The short (45 minutes) flight is on a prop plane so it's all economy and pretty cramped for us taller people. Because the planes are small, all luggage must be checked except for small carry-ons. As there are no assigned seats, be sure you position yourself in the waiting area so you can get in the queue as soon as the staff announce the flight. They do this by posting the flight number on the board by the departure gates. There's a cafe and gift shop at the airport in Bora Bora. The staff lead you from the terminal to the plane and from the plane to the terminal after landing in Papeete. Luggage is delivered fairly quickly.

A great little flight and despite its short duration all the staff are very efficient and friendly. The aircraft was clean and the boarding process very quick and pain free.

All luggage apart from small carry-ons has to be checked. Free seating means no allocated seats, so if you want to get seats together, and a good window position for photos, make sure you are at the head of the queue. For photo ops get a seat on the left going to Bora-Bora and the right side coming back. Planes are are ATR 72-600 turbo-props with 60 seats - all economy. Seating is pretty cramped but it is only a 45 min flight so not a real issue. Departure lounge in Papeete has a small restaurant/coffee shop, and there are leaflets in English on Bora-Bora. In flight service is a plastic cup of juice or water. Views of the islands and landing in Bora-Bora are beautiful. Bora-Bora airport is tiny and your bags are put on the bag rack pretty quickly. Hotel concierge desks are all right there in the arrivals hall and ferries to various resorts and Vaitape are literally right outside arrivals.
