The nearest hospital is in Playa del Carmen. When my husband had a heart attack though they sent him to Hospiten Cancun because it is larger they said. It took 40 minutes to get there. There is also a clinic onsite and the physician is onsite 24 hours a day (we called for a dr at 4 am and he was in our room in 10 minutes). It would take 20-25 minutes to get to Hospiten PDC.
There are other resorts in the area, but not "many". There is nothing right next to the Iberostar Grand for about a 20-30 minute walk. Then you come to Maroma Resort and some of the other Maroma area hotels (we get tired at this point and go back). You can walk quite a ways in either direction. I've walked in the other direction and after about 20 minutes you couldn't go any further.
The jr. suites are a little larger, closer to the beach and they all have sofas. The king rooms have sofas in the standard rooms but the two doubles do not. I have stayed in both types of rooms and those were the only differences. There are some honeymoon suites that have a jacuzzi on the balcony in the jr. suite area, but I don't know if this is the only area they are available.
I thought the air conditioning was completely adequate in the rooms. But I don't like it super cold. Not entirely sure about the internet access. There is an internet room with computers for a fee.
The Maya rooms are larger, all have a sitting area with sofa and chair. The decor is nicer and the bathrooms are larger 5 piece baths with a large jacuzzi. You also have access to two additional restaurants, the Japanese and Gourmet. The Lindo guests can go to the Japanese at the Beach hotel, but the Maya tables are smaller which is nicer, and lobster is on the Maya Japanese menu. The Lindo has a Gourmet also, but you can use all the restaurants at the Lindo as well when you stay at the Maya. Maya guests can also use the "wet" area of the spa (pool, jacuzzi's, therapeutic showers) at no charge. Lindo guests can only use them if they book a service or pay a fee.
