Not been out for 6 months are the homeless still in the shops on the front near Arona Gran
Hi.
The answer to your question is yes. I walked pass there the week before last doesn't look nice at all. Shame as the new restuarant in between them and arona gran looks fabulous. Can't see why nothing is done about it.
Peter.
Yes
I was well shocked
Nice and sunny today
Been squatters there for years. I remember when none of the units were occupied. Somebody must have built them on spec and when no takers the squatters moved in.
Shame really, it could be a great strip.
I presume the building owners cannot be sufficiently fussed to get them evicted.
I think I read somewhere that the authorities in Tenerife aren’t too concerned about squatters, or at least, they don’t take any robust action against them. When we walked past a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that some of them had made an attempt at a “garden” in front of one of the units. It’s obvious that there are also people sleeping rough in the lovely old banana plantation house on the beach further along, despite a pretty half hearted attempt to put up a metal fence. It makes me wonder why the family of the people who originally owned the house have let it go to rack and ruin.
When we were out in January, we were told the family who own the big house at the end of the beach by the the Costa Mar block built them without planning permission so the authorities have no jurisdiction to remove them. Apparently there's been an ongoing legal battle for years. It is such a pity as the new marina bar is lovely just to sit and relax early evenings & have a drink.
@10spot:
What's your concern?
The homeless or your next holiday?
Still, "nice and sunny today", eh?
😎
No concern just asking a simple question BTcardiff
Just returned from our first visit to Tenerife and was shocked at the sheer state of the promenade. We stayed for a week at the Arona Grand but doubt we will return as the area is run down. Whilst I feel for the homeless and sympathise with their situation, the whole strip is a complete eyesore with their crap everywhere and their dogs roaming too. Dogs' mess in abundance and we witnessed the squatters emptying what we presume was their sewerage into the sea, and water bottles filled with urine left by the bins. Whilst I agree they did not appear to bother tourists, I certainly would not have wanted to walk past there late at night. It's a shame the government can't help the squatters out and also turn the buildings into shops/bars.
I agree it can't be doing the Arona Gran or any other accommodation down there any favours.
You can avoid that strip by going up to the road where the outdoor market is held.
If all the units were occupied by bars, restaurants or shops it could be a right nice area.
