Where to Stay on Ile d'Oleron

We two senior citizens visiting Ile de Oleron this summer and would like recommendations of which town to choose to stay in. Ideally we'd like a small attractive village with a with a choice of restaurants and bars (at least two or three), We don't have children to amuse and we don't need to be near to a beach

We are on the island now and were charmed by a trip to Le Chateau d'Oléron today. It has a beautiful port area with a good choice of restaurants and more restaurants in the town centre. In high season there is a fantastic free bus service which can take you to all the main parts of the island.

Hi

Each village has his particular charm. The most lively place is st Pierre d'Oléron in term of shops, bars and restaurants, but it's sometimes crowed. Château d'Oléron and st trojan have many colored oyster farming sheds, as theeses of my link, and also many bars and restaurants.

La Cotinière is an active fishing harbourg and has also many bars and restaurants.

Dolus has few bars and restaurants, but an important supermarket.

Boyard ville is also lively.

Will you hire bikes ? The island has many cycling pathes, and it's often easier to use a bike than a car in summer.
