How is traffic going into obx on a sunday? We have only done it on a Saturday. (traveling from Chesapeake.)Thanks!
Expect it to be MUCH easier than Saturday's. I've heard that only 20% or so of the homes are Sunday turnover vs Saturday. So the traffic should reflect that difference. I usually plan to arrive around 1 - 2 pm on a Sunday and only face slow traffic into Duck, but nothing compared to Saturday.
We come in on Sunday, and we've had slowness on the bridge. Some years it's been bad enough that I shudder to think about what the Saturday traffic looks like! This year we're hoping to be over the bridge by 11--but we're also going much later in the season, at the end of August, so we're hoping that eases traffic somewhat.
If there's rain, it can be really slow going up the main road.
Rain? Yep - good input. When it rains, Duck's roads easily flood and can turn route 12 north into a parking lot.
Sundays are much better overall than Saturday by a lot. Rt 12 from Kitty to Duck still backs up since Duck is like a bottle neck to traffic, but you won't have any problem getting over the bridge to Kitty Hawk.
The flooding problem has gotten a lot better in Duck over the last year or two. But it still gets backed up because everyone drives there to go shopping when it rains. And it is a bottle neck.
We arrived on a Sunday night and didn't hit traffic at all. It was around 6 pm when we arrived in Kitty Hawk and smooth sailing all the way to Corolla.
