Ruaha animal Density

Ruaha animal Density

We are visiting Ruaha in late November. I’ve visited before - 6 years ago - and experienced good game viewing. But we are hearing that wildlife in the park is much sparser now, and that the droughts have taken their toll.

Is this the case? We are staying Jabsli Ridge.

Hi Julian,

We were in Ruaha the last week of September. We've been many times at various times of the year and did feel that although we did see lion and leopard, there weren't the same number that we've seen in the past. We were however very lucky to see a small pack of six wild dogs and as many elephant etc. as usual.

Hope you have a fantastic trip.

I have a strange suspicion that the number of lions and leopards has fallen due to overhunting in the Rungwa Hunting Concession which shares a border with Ruaha National Park. The hunting of both lions and leopards is permitted there.
