JukeJoint Festival April 2017

Hi we're organising a trip from the UK to take my father to Memphis, Nashville and Clarksdale - trip of a lifetime for him and we're all very excited - we'd planned April due to the weather mostly and then realised that we had planned to be around the same weekend as the Juke Joint Festival - think we're a bit too late for accommodation in town though - anyone know of any options - happy for basic.

Or if nothing available would people advise staying out of town and coming to the festival each day (Dad isn't too mobile though so might struggle being out all day) or leaving Clarksdale until the following weekend when we can stay in town - I'm guessing most weekends have music?

sorry for the long post - want to book flights ASAP and we can't decide between the two options! thank you!

Check Juke Joint Festival website for lodging outside of Clarksdale. Shack Up inn is the place to stay in Clarksdale.

Hi thank you - yes Shack Up Inn looks amazing but already booked up that weekend as does seem to be everywhere in town - closest we can get is Lula, West Helena or Batesville - i think we'd have a much better experience staying in Clarksdale so might give the festival weekend a miss and plan to be there the following weekend instead

Being in Clarksdale during the Juke Joint Festival is great, and there's a lot going on at that time.

Other yearly music festivals are listed on a calendar on the Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art website: http://www.cathead.biz/CatHead/Home.html

Also, Roger Stolle the owner of Cat Head, publishes a weekly list called Sounds Around Town. He lists the live music that is offered every night in Clarksdale. There's always good music going on in Clarksdale! Ground Zero Blues Club is open a few nights every week. Bluesberry Cafe is open weekend mornings with live music. New Roxy is a seasonal venue, but it is open during most of the music festivals. Every Tuesday, there's great live music at Stan Streets Hambone Art Gallery, too. Hopson Plantation has live music every Monday night, as does Bluesberry Cafe. All these venues are great and should not be missed! Oh, and don't miss live music at Red's Lounge -- the real deal Mississippi Delta juke joint! -- Sunday nights are the best!
