Lodging for April Juke Joint Festival

We would like to attend Clarksdale's Juke Joint Festival this April, but it looks like the local motels are fully booked. Is it too late for this year, or can someone suggest alternative lodging? Thank you!

Have not been to festival but been to area. Batesville, MS has hotels and is on I 55.

Many small towns in MS have no lodging or a limited amount. Lodging more plentiful in college towns, larger cities and along interstate.

Thank you PeachBelle8288. I'll check out Batesville. It looks like it's about 40 miles away. I guess that's doable for the festival.

Just not a lot of hotels in the MS Delta. People stay miles away when they come to Ole Miss football games. Know some that have stayed an hour or more from Oxford because of limited hotels.

From the festival website, the official hotel is the Isle Of Capri casino in Lula (27 miles away) and as of this morning I see there are still four rooms (but just four rooms) left. You'd be sure to be with fellow blues hounds there.

I stayed at the Riverside Hotel last year (NOT during the Fest) and the owner told me that she is sold out for the Fest almost immediately from when she opens her rooms up (and I imagine she & the Shack Up Inn are the destination choices). It may not be outlandish to start prepping to book for 2017.

Thank you ScottInPTC-GA. I made a reservation at the Isle of Capri Casino Hotel. Its reviews on TA are very mixed, but it looks like the complaints may be more about the gambling than the lodging. The fesitval site I saw indicated it was associated with the festival in 2015 and provided a shuttle bus. I will try to find out if that is true for 2016 as well, since we prefer not to drive that far at night if we can avoid it. We are still deciding whether to visit for the festival or just come earlier in March and visit Clarksdale.

If you decide to visit MS visit the road trip forum top questions. I have a link with things to see, restaurants, and photos titled Memphis down thru MS to New Orleans.

Great, thanks! My original idea was to combine MS and AL on one trip, but perhaps not. The Delta with its blues connections is my husband's priority, and the civil rights history in Montgomery, etc. is mine. We may make a loop. But that would leave New Orleans for another time.

Memphis Civil rights museum is excellent and so is MLK in Atlanta. I was a bit disappointed by Montgomery site. Rosa Parks bus is not there. It is in Michigan.

Thank you PeachBelle. I checked out your road trip forum which is a very useful tab, thanks.

We have never been to MS or AL , though have been to Memphis, Atlanta, and New Orleans, so we were thinking about a loop through mostly small towns and countryside this time.

We visited Memphis about 10 years ago and were somewhat disappointed with Beale St. (more touristy than "real"), so I was thinking that attending the Juke Joint Festival might be more satisfying than just driving through.

We didn't get to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, so thanks for that tip.

I would really like to see the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, hence a priority on stopping there.

We are probably only going to take a week-10 days for this trip so need to focus.

Thanks again for all the help you provide.
