Shuttle from Mayo/downtown Rochester to malls?

I will be staying in Rochester for several weeks while my husband has treatments at Mayo. We will not have a car. Is there shuttle service between Mayo or downtown Rochester and shopping malls, Target, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help.

It depends on the hotel you are staying at. The Mayo itself doesn't have its' own shuttles. Otherwise there are taxis, Uber, or buses.

Thanks. Someone told me there used to be a shuttle from Apache Mall to Mayo/downtown and back, but it seems to have ended. I wondered if there were other shuttles I had not heard about. We are not staying in a hotel with a shuttle. I will check the bus schedule next.

Yes, I believe the shuttle from Apache has ended. You said that your hotel does not have a shuttle. Are you staying downtown?

Rochester has an excellent bus transport system. The drivers are very helpful and nice. The bus system can get you pretty much anywhere in town. Walmart has their own bus that can pick you up and bring you to their store. Target does not offer a shuttle.

Check out these other transportation options:

Centerstone Plaza/Twigs Restaurant. Will transport people to and from downtown to their restaurant. 507-288-2677

Bleu Duck Kitchen. Will coordinate Uber for patrons of their restaurant a ride home, if they live within a 5 mile radius of the restaurant. 507-258-4663.

Park and Ride Lots. Rochester Public Transit provides park and ride lots that allow people to park their vehicles in town, board a city bus, and be driven to their destination. There are currently 6 lots around Rochester. 507-328-RIDE.

Thanks very much. We are staying in an apartment building downtown so no shuttle. But it sounds like the bus system is a great option.

There are shops downtown as well as many restaurants. If you are coming yet this summer the Peace Plaza by the Gonda building has Thursdays on 1st with food vendors and entertainment each Thursday all day.

You can order groceries on-line with Hyvee and they will deliver your groceries no matter how minimal. ($5 charge or free with a $100 order)

Thanks again for your reply

I already have groceries ordered from HyVee for our arrival. :)

We are familiar with the restaurants and shops downtown and in the subways to Mayo. For better or worse, we have been going to Mayo for my husband's cancers since 2011. But we have never needed to stay longer than 12 days, have always stayed in a hotel with a shuttle, and we have never been without a car. But this time we will be there at least several weeks and have to fly in and out.

I am hoping not to need other shopping but good to know I can use the bus if need be.

We will have to get prescription refills at CVS, and the only ones I could find in Rochester are inside Target stores. I figure a bus goes to one or both Target locations.

You are correct, CVS is inside the north and south targets. However, most patients use the Mayo subway pharmacy while they are actually staying at Mayo as it is very convenient. Not sure if the bus system goes to Target, but your best bet would be the north Target. (It does go to Walmart) The bus has "shopping" routes on Tuesday and Friday, but neither Target is on the route.

Thanks. All our regular Rx are at CVS so when out of town we get refills at a local branch. All the Mayo-prescribed drugs for my husband we do get at Mayo subway pharmacy. Will check on bus routes to Targets once I arrive and get settled.
