Crime in Council Bluffs

Anyone else that has stayed at a Council Bluffs hotel had their vehicle broken into?

We stayed at the Springhill Suites in Council Bluffs on our way back from Denver as we moved my daughter back to Wisconsin from Denver, our rental truck was broken into in the parking lot overnight on Monday night. We had $4-5k of items stolen suck as clothes, purses, bedding, Pampered Cef items and jewelry. Very disappointing. As I looked after the fact it appears Council Bluffs has a fair amount of crime. I wish I would have been aware of that. The area looked okay near Bass Pro Shops and the Mid-America Arena.

The town of Council Bluffs has a huge problem with thieves in this town. They are constantly breaking into vehicles at the motels and stealing items from travelers. The town has so many druggies that there are very few places that are not affected by this crime wave that continues to flourish. The amount of people roaming around on bicycles is a clue for you, they case the area for their next break in or what they can steal. The downtown area is so full of low lifes that I would not go down there after dark without the doors locked and a way to defend ones self. The police department seems to be useless as they make their money from the traffic camera's and writing tickets. Be careful in this town and if you can stay elsewhere, I would do so to keep from becoming a victim. I recently moved here and I am doing everything I can to get out of this town, the joke is on anyone who does not understand why it has always been known as Council Tucky and with good reason.

Is this also the case at the casinos? Planning on staying at harrahs - does their security make a difference there?

There isn't a problem with crime within the casino properties; Harrah's or Horseshoe. Both are extremely safe. I just returned from a stay at Harrah's and never saw or felt that there was anything to be leary about. If you are leaving your car in ANY lot, ANYWHERE, you have to be smart enough to NOT leave anything of value in it. This applies ANYWHERE you stay, especially when staying/parking in hotel parking lots. Thieves exist in every Town all over the World. Council Bluffs is no exception.
