Looking for updated info on Harrah's and Horseshoe

Hi everyone,

I see that there is not much traffic on this site. With that said, I am hoping that someone can still give me some advice. My husband and I are going on a charter in July. I've done quite a bit of research and not getting anything that is "up to date". If there is anyone out there that has stayed at Harrah's and/or Horseshoe, could you please give me the pros and cons? Any information will be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I finally had a chance to check out the new Harrahs. I had seen it getting mixed reviews with people complaining about it being too small, too much smoke, or their video keno games being taken out.

With that being said, I was pretty impressed. Is it small? Yes it is small to what a person would see in Vegas or most casinos. There are 600 slot machines and approx 20 table games I think. The new casino is MUCH cleaner than the old boat and smoke was never an issue for me. I love the new table game set ups and see they added a game like High Card Flush which I don't think is in any of the CB casinos until now. I would and will definitely be back. As I said it is small, but I liked the new setup and environment. It was also nice to see they added a little sit down bar area with televisions.

Thank you for the update, TrueKCRoyalsFan.

Is it true that there is little to none video poker? I know there is a bar, but from what I can tell from the pictures, there are only 9 machines on the long part of the bar and 2 on the side. It appears that there is a lot of wasted space, where they could have put more machines.

If there aren't many machines, my husband and I will just have to take the shuttle over to the Horseshoe, as we only play video poker. I won't spend my time while on our charter in July, standing and waiting for a machine. That is just plain silly!

Thank you again for the information.

There are actually plenty of video poker machines including the ones on the bar then most of the machines in the back corner by the bar area are video poker. The machines they took out were the video keno machines and left like two of those I think when they used to have like 15. There is plenty of video poker though.

Regardless of what you think about their video poker selection I would encourage you to still take the shuttle to the Horseshoe as it is what I would call one of the premier casinos in Iowa as far as size and gaming options go. I still prefer Harrahs though :-)

Thanks for the update - I stayed away from the grand opening there on purpose! They are touting the best video poker in town though I sure hope they didn't ditch the 9/6 machines for 8/5 and worse like Ameristar did on their bartops. They got rid of the Video Keno machines? Dang ! That means all those people will be at the other places in CB, those VK players seem to all smoke like chimneys - smokiest section of the Ameristar is by the Keno players ! Ameristar does have some VP in the non smoking section.

Horseshoe still has some 9/6 but you have to look around they are trying to sucker players with those multi play VP machines that are better for the house.

I like Harrahs because I like to play the tables and they seem less crowded usually. Although on weeknights Harrahs will close the craps table by 1am if its not busy and it usually doesn't open til 10 or 11am.
