What is the most scenic route you would recommend when driving between Asheville and Chatanooga? Any special places to stop on the way.
I have realized that actually going to GSMNP will take more time than I have. I am thinking about few different driving itineraries to still enjoy the scenic rides and beautiful smoky mountains.
1st version: Asheville, waynesville, sylvia, brynson, city, fontana dam, Robinsvilee, Telico plains, chatanooga
Any suggestions for 3rd route hybrid?
I would appreciate your insights, feedback and other ideas
Are actually going IN the GSMNP. Your recent two threads don't reflect that.
The hybrid (and my favorite) would be Asheville to Sylva to Franklin, over to Highlands with a stop at Dry Falls (that section is very curvy), Highlands down to Dillard. Dillard House restaurant and/or horseback riding, the town of Clayton and then over to Chattanooga.Edited: 16 March 2018, 21:15
I like your first version. The Cherohala Skyway in beautiful from Robinsville to Tellico Plains. Bald River Fall is a must see. Take a short side trip to Joyce Kilmer National Forest near Robinsville. It is beautiful and very little people...like on the Cherohala.
Cut and paste in the following link for an idea. A nice place to stop is the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, you can do some hiking there, if you want.
