Can this be done 7-8 days comfortably see and do enough ?
N2 to Port Elizabeth and return R62
Absolutely. To put it in perspective? If you needed to, you could drive the entire route, from Capetown to Port Elizabeth, in about 9 hours. So that essentially means you have two days driving to spread out over 7-8 days, which leaves lots of time for exploring.
Highlights for us included Addo Elephant Nat. Park, Tsitsikama Nat. Park, the towns of Knysna and Wilderness...but there's plenty more to explore too. Lots of great hikes, forest, shops,
Enjoy your trip!
Cheers mate that sounds good, anymore advice would be greatly appreciated
One bit of advise would be that both Addo and Tsitsikama have nice little chalets or cabins that you can rent. The prices were a great value, I thought, with our exchange rate. Worked out to about $100 US a night. But you have to get on them ASAP as they sell out quickly.
The website for Tsitsikama is here: https://www.sanparks.org/parks/garden_route/
It offers several camps with rentals. We love the Storms River Camp. Cabins right on the ocean coastline with beautiful views. Fully equipped with kitchen, decks. Lovely.
The Addo website is here: https://www.sanparks.org/parks/addo/
It similarly offers several camps within the park. Everyone has their favorite. We like "Addo", the main rest camp, for it's proximity to a swimming pool, restaurant, store. They have cabins and campsites.
If the above are already booked for your dates, there are private lodges and BnB's and such outside of both the parks as alternative places to stay.
Jackklad are you sorted with answers?
It depends on your reason for visiting Port Elizabeth side. If you are heading towards the eastern cape for safari then yes, but if not then no, jsut then focus on the garden route up until Tsitsikamma and then make a u-turn back via R62. 7-8 days yes, easily to be devided with Oudtshoorn, safari in the eastern cape and then return back via the garden route side or even the other way around.
I would suggest the following:
Drive from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn - R62 stay the night or even two nights.
Drive from Oudtshoorn to Addo and stay for 1 night. Try to incorporate an afternoon game drive and then again an early morning game drive in the park. Then for departure you then drive ourself in your own vehicle from the top gate to the bottom gate and then head to your safari lodge.
Safari Lodge - stay for 2 nights - much worht it
Drive then from game lodge to Knysna or Plettenburg Bay and do some activities along the way. Stay at least for 2 nights and then head back to Cape Town from there with some smaller towns along the way for pop ins.
All the best!
