Makardi vs Marsa Alam - best hotels and snorkelling

Makardi vs Marsa Alam - best hotels and snorkelling

I am thinking of holidaying in Egypt in Oct-19 with my wife and 2 children (14 & 16).

We naturally want a nice hotel with good food and pools (slides a bonus) but a key part of the holiday is easy access to excellent snorkelling.

We have previously been to Reef Oasis in Sharm and absolutely loved the snorkelling there - so jetty access and drop off is fine. Beach access also ok, but not at expense of quality reef.

If we opt for Makadi Bay I think we have narrowed it down to Fort Arabesque (but open to suggestions).

But I am still very undecided which hotels would be best in Marsa Alam

So, for a holiday in Oct - best snorkelling Makadi or Marsa Alam?

Best hotels in Marsa Alam that are family friendly, good facilities and food and excellent snorkelling.

Any recommendations or tips very much appreciated.

Hi Chris I used to go to Makadi often . I fancied a change a 2 years ago and opted for Marsa and loved it so much that I can’t see myself returning to Makadi . We stayed at the Sunrise in Port Ghalib last year and it was fantastic hotel with friendly staff the reef was brilliant. The year before we stayed at Coraya beach adult only but amazing hotel and the bay and reef beautiful. This year back to Coraya bay but staying at the Lamaya as we are going with partners daughters family . The snorkelling in Coraya bay is amazing one of the best places to snorkel. There are a few hotels to chooose from in the bay .

Thanks for the reply Syimo, I'll certainly look at those options. Sunshine was one of the places I was considering, I wasn't 100% sure about the beach being down the road but sounds like it works ok.

I'll also look at Coraya.

If your looking for a good family hotel with easy access to the beach and in a central location then I would only recommend you the jaz group of hotels such as jaz lamaya , solaya .

And if your looking at cheaper prices then checkout the three corners sea beach or equinox resortwhere is an excellent house reef , sandy bay and a jetty and in early morning if your lucky then you will snorkel with the dugong

Hi there, we stayed in Marsa for 6 weeks last summer in 6 different hotels. If you want the lowdown about family friendly hotels we stayed in send me a pm. The snorkelling at Marsa was great. We really enjoyed it, and we even got to see 2 Dugongs :)

I wondered about the beach being separate Chris but it;s actually not as it sounds really. If your room is that side of the hotel then you literally walk out of the exit that side, straight ahead alongside the water for about 150m, it takes no time and it's only down a road that is not used much as it only leads to the beach so it's just the diving guys. It almost feels like you are still on the complex and it's no further than getting to the beach in a big hotel.

Great snorkelling there with a sharp drop off literally about 3m from the beach. It's the perfect area to at night to have a bumble around the shops or a drink and a burger in the Wunderbar!

Dear friend

We are interested in sharing your experience in Marsa alam with great snorkelling access off the shore and family friendly. We have been to Jaz Lamaya, Three corners, and Sunrise, they are all good. But we are fancy something new and different.

Recommendation will be grateful, our kids are little though.
