Hi! I was supposed to be heading to Puerto Viejo tomorrow but now that the floods have hit I’m not sure it’s the best idea to leave tomorrow. Does anyone know how long these kind of floods usually last?
See https://www.nacion.com/sucesos/desastres/alerta-amarilla-lluvias-generadas-por-sistema-de/TG7JH4L3AVCYTIBIV7VURLAPMY/story/ (do Google translate, if you do not read Spanish - http://itools.com/tool/google-translate-web-page-translator ).
Today Route Main 32 opened. Puerto Viejo was basically in full swing since Monday. Still has been raining off and on, but light rain, not flooding. Turrialba route has been open almost whole time of heavy rains.
While this deluge of rain has been the heaviest I have seen since Nov of 2008, most people don't realize that a country like Costa Rica has flooding going on somewhere at all times in the country.
You can always get up to date road information here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1555309917886017/
It has over 12,000 local members that travel route 32 and I find it to be very up to date with the most recent reports.
