Hi, my international flight arrives at 8 am and i have 8 hours. is there any restaurant with a terrace looking into the city where we could spend a couple of hours? Then do some walking around?

Last time i stayed closed to placa de la Republica and walked all the way to avenida Paulista and crossed some interesting neighborhoods but i don’t remember names, where could i stay 2 nights with family with 2 teenagers , able to walk around or take the subway or buses ?

a bit confused about your post...

is it an 8-hour layover (all flights at GRU airport?), a two-night stay. or both?

1. first easier part... 2-night stay... see answer #2, bullet point 3 here:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g303631-i2161-k13471609-General_recommendations-Sao_Paulo_State_of_Sao_Paulo.html

[when were u last in SP and Republica area? area, pre-pandemic, was sort of enjoying a revival, pushed by night life... post-pandemic and with devastation of night life, that has come to a complete halt and even some setback in terms of "attractiveness"... city is by no means deserted but it certainly has lost a lot of its luster with harder times.... a lot more homeless people everywhere... an anecdote: we have been going to same supermarket for 20 years... nowadays there are always families in front of it asking for money, or people to buy food for them... that had not ever happened in that location...]

as a family, maybe staying in the Moema area mentioned in link above could be a good idea (solid middle/upper middle class area)... and it is all flat, one can walk to Ibirapuera Park from there and use the new subway line

[side note: subways still crowded at rush hours as lots of people still have to commute to work even during pandemic... UberX is quite cheap here and may be even cheaper for a family than subway for many rides than subway...]

2. for a place with a view... near Ibirapuera Park there is this museum called MAC:

top floor has great view... and a restaurant, called Vista:

restaurant at Skye Bar @ Unique Hotel (mentioned in previous link) also great view, but more $$$.

caveats: double check opening hours everywhere as you arrive; situation in a flux.... same for your domestic flights (e.g. today Gol sent another reminder for passengers to check their reservations as schedules in flux too...]
