nobody seems to respond or know anything about this topic, so here some info for you. first, if you have some spare days and you want to do something different from iguazu / iguassu, here are some advices: cross the border into paraguay from foz de iguassu. in ciudad del este go to the terminal de omnibus and catch a bus to encarnacion (5- 6 hours, approximately 10 us dollars). this is a strange and interesting trip back in time, through a landscape of farms, and local people, most of them look german, through villages with names like nueva monaco, hohenau, nueva jerusalen - landscape dottet with evangelist and adventist churches - in encarnacion there are several good hotels. i stayed at hotel acuario, 25 dollars for a single, very adequate. other hotels in encarnacion: hotel itapua, hotel le pelican, hotel cristal, hotel real, hotel germano . from here to the ruins at trinidad is 30 km, just walk to the bus station and take any collectivo headed to ciudad del este. you can change money downtown in encarnacion, the rate is today 4700 guarani per dollar. going from here to asuncion is a piece of cake, best buses are encarnaceña and rysa. it takes approximately 6 hours. if you want to go to paraguay from brazil and dont have time for a 25 hours bustrip, just fly for ex from rio or sao paulo to foz de iguassu then cross the border. since it is a domestic flight it is much cheaper than flying to asuncion. from argentina, cross into brazil from puerto iguazu to foz de iguassu, then from foz to ciudad del este. or you can also cross from posadas to encarnacion directly. beware in ciudad del este, cause it seems a specialty of the locals to try to rip you off in all ways.
