We have booked an 8 day small boat island cruise starting and finishing in split early June and then we have a further week to explore. I have booked three nights in Trogir at the end of our stay so have 4 nights left. Ideas please. We would like to visit Krka falls so maybe we should stay in Sibenik or and Zadar but also like small places. Any advice most welcome.

Sibenik is a good choice. You can day trip to Skradin/Krka (do allow the full day at Krka with the optional boat to Visovac/Roski Slap)

You can also visit Zadar & Nin from Sibenik as a day trip. If you have a car you can explore around Sibenik area and visit small towns such as Zaton & Tribunj as well as Murter & Tisno (on Island Murter connected to the mainland by a drawbridge) You can also take a ferry to the small Islands of Prvic, Zlarin and/or Kaprije. There are also boat excusions to NP Kornati from Sibenik.

Thank you for your post. Do you think Zadar worth a trip too or better to concentrate on Sibenik area.

If you decide to stay in Sibenik, think about taking the tour to the fortress of St. Nicholas, a Venetian work of defence listed as UNESCO heritage site.

Zadar is lovely and well worth a visit. If you prefer smaller towns I would stay in Sibenik and visit Zadar. If you wont have a vehicle then its much easier to get to Zadar from Sibenik than the other small towns I mentioned. Except Skradin which is close to Sibenik.

If you stay in Sibenik be sure to visit the cathedral. We really liked it.

And all the great cafe's, restaurants, cobblestone streets to wander. On your way up to St Michaels Fortress, stop for coffee or a drink in the small charming Medieval mediterranean gardens. Enjoy some time on the Riva watching the boats and people come and go. Check out Dalmatian Ethno Village at Solaris/Amadria Resort.
