Transportation to Yerevan
Save

Good Afternoon,

First of all, many thanks to the knowledgeable destination experts who have helped me thus far on various topics regarding Georgia.

I have read plenty of the older posts on the subject of transportation Tbilisi-Yerevan. There were some consistent information such as the trip time (6 to 7 hours), the mode of transportation (train, private car, mini van, bus and shared taxi) however I couldn't quite discern the following:

1-I can NOT be on the train for that long for personal reasons but I am considering the other options like car (private or shared taxi), mini van or bus. In one of the older posts it was mentioned the shared taxis are available by the Avalabari Metro station. I am curious if this information is current or the location has changed?

2-In case of shared Taxi or mini van, is there a luggage compartment for the luggage (I have one suit case)?

3-One of the posts from early 2017 indicated the fare for shared taxi is 35 GEL, is this also valid for the mini van? if NOT what is the fare for mini van?

4-Where is the drop off point in Yerevan in case of shared taxi and mini van?

5-What is the common assessment about transfergeorgia.com? It seems out of order.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

there is two point from where you can go to Yerevan, in front of Avlabari metro station and Ortachala bus station.

Avlabari station is very close from the center of Tbilisi and its easy to access

there are mini vans and taxis

I don't know exact price, hope someone will give more accurate answer, but since it is not very far from Tbilisi circa 300km, I don't think it will be expensive. Taxis will be probably more expensive but also more comfortable and fast.

One suitcase shouldn't be a problem at all.

Thanks Mike D. I think Avlabari is very close to my hotel (near the fortress in Old Town). I couldn't locate Ortachala bus station on the Google Map, though I saw Central Bus Station instead (may be the same thing).

Also, I tried to find out about Bus to Yerevan but it seems there are only Mini Van (or as local say Micro Van), Marshrutka, shared Taxi and private car, so the Mini Van seems practical and cost effective.

Thanks again

I think that central bus station and Ortachala bus station are the same. Addres is Dimitri Gulia street 1

but yes Avlabari is closer, so I think it is better option to go there.

We call mini vans Marshrutkas in Georgia and there is ok to go with it to Yerevan, but taxi will be more comfy. so ask there about prices and decide after.

p.s. have a nice trip :)

I just came back from Yerevan this weekend. I live in Tbilisi. We left via a shared van at the Ortochala bus station. They were originally going to charge me 40 lari per person, but I was able to negotiate down to 30 lari. Honestly though 30-40 lari is a pretty good price considering that the ride is 5.5 hours.

We left around 830am. Got to Yerevan at 01:30pm at the central bus station. The landscapes after you cross the border is amazingly beautiful, full of grassy hills and streams and centuries old churches. Quite a sight.

Thanks Bryan. I will try to catch the Mini Van or Marshrutka from the vicinity of the Avlabari metro station instead of the Ortochala station, since it's only a 1 km away from my hotel.

Thanks

Hi there,

Me and my gf just arrived in Yerevan from Tbilisi two days ago. We took a minivan with 7 places from Tbilisi Central Train Station. We went for the one leaving at 11 am but since we were the only passangers the minibus waited 30 more minutes before departing. It stopped at the Araveni (tha station near your hotel, don't remember the exact name) and than went directly to the border. The road on the Armenian side is terrible so the minibus took more than 6 hrs to arrive. It dropped us of near the city center, although the minibus was going further towards the Central train station in Yerevan. The price was 35 lari each.

Travel to Yerevan from Tbilisi via Minibus (Van) is highly preferred than by train, as train is very old and isn't fast. Get a taxi cab from Tbilisi City to Ortachala Terminal (fare will just be max GEL 5) and look for a van going to Yerevan. You must avoid interacting with "barkers" who will approach you and inquire where you'll go. Don't even go to the ticketing booth as they might charge you extra. Directly approach the driver of the van and choose your seat. Van might leave even if it's not full (15 seater as I can recall). It will be a long 5 hours journey but you won't get bored as the sceneries along the way will be very captivating. You may choose the window seat for a better view and picture taking. The same driver will ask you to pay the ticket at the counter. Bring your passport and pay GEL 30.
