We will be visiting Israel for between 7-10 days at the beginning of May this year. We will spend most of the time in Tel Aviv but visit Jerusalem for a couple of days. Are there any possible day trips from Tel Aviv that anybody would recommend ?

As this is our first trip to Israel, any advice or recommendations would be welcome including advice on places to stay. Thank you.

Welcome to the Israel,forum.

I think most people would recommend that you spend more time in Jerusalem than in Tel Aviv. But yes there are day trips.

The thing is, we the regulars on the forum need, prior some more information prior to making recommendations.

So, who is we? Adults? kids? What are your interests? What do,you envision this vacation in Israel to be about?

Jerusalem deserves much more than a day trip. You should spend no less than two full days there, and more if possible. Your day trips should be to the Dead Sea (from Jerusalem) and to the Galilee (from Tel-Aviv)

We will be two adults. We both like history and sightseeing but my partner wants to spend a couple of days in Tel Aviv at the beach. Thanks again.

Are you renting a car or want to do group day tours? Tel Aviv is a good location for day trips, but you are better off spending at least 1 night in the north to cut down traveling time and having more time to visit the sites.

We aren't thinking of renting a car so would probably want organised tours. If it is easy to get somewhere with public transport we are ok with that too.

You can reach almost anywhere - except truly off-the-beaten-track places - by public transport. But in some parts of the country, notably Galilee, buses are infrequent and are timed to suit the needs of local residents, not tourists, so if you are interested in (for example) Christian sites in Galilee, it's just about impossible to do that by public transport. For that, you should take a tour.

Read some guide books, do some research, decide what interests you, and post a draft itinerary here. We will be happy to help you fine-tune it, and tell you what can and can't be done by public transport.
