Travelling to Silhouette and Mahe on May12th

Hi all,

I am after a bit of last-minute advice as I haven't had a chance to research like I normally do!

We arrive in the Seychelles on the morning of the 13th May and will be heading to Hilton Labriz on Silhouette for 8 nights. If my understanding of this island is correct, we will be spending nearly all of our time at the hotel and eating and drinking there as there is nothing else available anyway? We are Half Board for this reason. But please tell me otherwise if I am mistaken!

We then head to Mahe to stay at Banyan Tree for 3 nights. I am aware that it's unlikely we will be swimming in the sea here at this time of year which is fine. Can anyone recommend a beach to visit?

I would like to know about restaurants outside of the hotel anyone would recommend? Is it quite easy to arrange taxis to get to and from the hotel? Cost of taxis roughly?

Are there any 'must dos' in Mahe? I have heard people mention Eden Island? My husband and I are late twenties/early thirties and like a lively night out.

Has anyone stayed at Banyan Tree and could advise how easy/difficult getting to and from the hotel to various locations is?

Finally, can anyone enlighten/reassure me in regards to weather? Forecast looks awful but from what I have read I should disregard this completely?? Anyone there at the moment or just got back?

Any other tidbits anyone could share would be very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

On Silhouette there is just one hotel and some villas not far away from the hotel. It is very good that you are on HB because food is expensive. I would advise you to buy some drinks on Mahe before getting to Silhouette. There are small shops in Bel Ombre area not far from the jetty. And you have also the dutyfree. Do not miss the creole and Italian restaurants on Silhouette they are the best (reservation required).

On Mahe there are a lot of must dos including here hiking (Copolia, Anse Major), Victoria Market, Eden Island shopping, Takamaka Distillery or a day trip to St Anne MP. Nearby beaches include Anse Takamaka and Petite Anse. I would get in touch wih a local taxi driver since using Banyan Tree taxi service is quite expensive.

Weather forecasts in Seychelles are not reliable so it is better not to check it if you do not want to destroy your holiday until it started.

Hi Lottie,

My partner and I are flying out to Labriz on the 8th May, this will be our 2nd visit, we stayed last year in June.

Half board is definitely essential as there are no other shops restaurants on the island. We also took a few wine boxes and some nibbles (crespo olives in sachets and some nuts) with us to have a glass or too before dinner, alcohol is very expensive.

Although we re travelling a month earlier this year we had great weather last year and although we did get some rain, it didn’t t last long.

Make sure you bring some shoes to swim in the sea with as there’s is quite a bit of coral/ rocks just off the beach.

Have a fab time.

Hi Lottie,

Further to my last, taxis are easy to pick up , they wait outside the front of the airport, we were charged 40 Euro to Bel Ombre jetty, this is about standard, if you book through Labriz they will charge you 60 Euro. If you are arriving at the resort early, chances are your villa will not be ready so make sure you pack beach stuff either in hand luggage or where it’s readily accessed in your suitcase so you can get out on the beach whilst waiting for your room.

Enjoy.

While on Mahe, you can always give the casino in Victoria a go. I couldn't resist...
