Thanksgiving trip - recommendations please

Our family of three is planning a trip to DC for a long Thanksgiving weekend, and we’re looking for some advice please.

We plan to stay in The Wharf area and will visit several of the Smithsonian museums during our trip - Natural History, Air and Space, and American History are on our wish list. We plan to park our car, and then walk and take public transportation during our stay.

What are your favorite restaurants in The Wharf area? We are vegetarians and especially enjoy Asian food. Any favorite desert spots? Are there good spots for boba tea?

What are your favorite restaurants and/or bakeries in Chinatown?

Any K-pop music stores in DC?

Lots of questions! Thank you for your suggestions!

The asian community is much larger in the suburbs.

Lil Thingamajigs has a few stores locally that would have k-pop related items. The only one kind of metro accessible is the Rockville Location but the Centreville or Annandale locations would work on the way to/from home. You could also stop by Shilla Bakery or Paris Baguette for Korean Bakeries.

If you go to Annandale you might also want to visit the Eden Center nearby in Falls Church which is a huge shopping center of mostly south east asian restaurants but with plenty of vegetarian options.

yeah, I agree, the Asian community is mainly in the suburbs. Thai and Vietnamese are in NoVa, and Korean is more in Montgomery County, I think, but some in NoVa also. There used to be a good CHinese one in Wheaton, but it's gone. AlI know is I see a big grocery store named "Korean Corner" up on Veirs Mill Rd.

Of course you will find some of those restaurants in DC proper, but they don't live there (much). Of course there are still a couple decent Chinese restaurants in DC (I think). I don't think Chinese are exactly known for their baked goods.

Now there is a decent Chinese restaurant right on CT Av just north of Dupont Circle (City LIghts of China).

Anju is the best Korean restaurant in DC.

There are some good Indian ones, like Rasika, of course, in DC. Thamee is supposed to be good for Burmese.

There aren't hardly any "record" stores around any more of any kind, I don't even know of one in DC, except maybe some vintage vinyl shops. I thought you could buy all that stuff virtually nowadays (Kpop music). there is a Korean Cultural Center in DC, though, too bad you missed it they just had a concert on 10/31. maybe you can view their website for stuff

here are some bubble tea shops, there are a couple in DC proper, two in Georgetown

Thank you, Canaan M, for writing. We will check out Lil Thingamajigs for K-pop merchandise! They look like really fun shops! Thank you as well for telling us about Eden Center. We can probably pay a visit to both on our way to or from DC. Thanks again!

Christina W, thank you for writing as well with the restaurant and boba tea recommendations. We have saved your suggestions for our trip. We always love Chinese bakeries and visit as many as we can. Chinese bakeries are wonderful and have moon cakes, sesame balls, custard tarts, breads, steamed buns, etc., etc., and these are always delicious treats! We realize DC's Chinatown is small, but we thought there may be a good bakery there to explore.

We appreciate both of you writing with your advice! Thanks again!

Wing Shen Bakery is inside the Good Fortune Supermarket at Eden Center. There are other bakeries there as well. You may want to spend some time browsing. Eden Center directory:
