Recent experience transiting through Dublin Airport?
Save

My husband and I are hoping that we will be able to transit through Dublin airport on way to UK on July 7. We know that we have to have a PCR test and that we allowed to take a connecting flight that leaves within 12 hours of landing in Ireland. 2 questions:

1) How much time should I allow between flights? I know that the amount of time it will take to be "processed" varies, but if you were going to do this again, how much time would you allow?

2) How is it handled when you fly into one terminal and depart through another? Are you allowed to walk out of one terminal and walk into another and then go through security to your gate?

THANKS

My tickets are from 2 different airlines and were bought at different times. I will try to convince American Airlines To link the trips and have my luggage sent onward to the UK. However, they may or may not agree to do so.

I would advise a 3 hour layover

I wouldn’t advise a 3 hour layover if on 2 separate tickets - I’d want more time.

Op what are your flight details?

Thanks so much for responding.

The trip over the pond is on American and arrives at 8:30 AM on a Thursday. We have not bought the tickets to London yet, as we are first trying to decide how much time to allow. We have the choice of flying nonstop on British Air or on Aer Lingus.

My husband and I are going to try not to check luggage.

Thanks again.

be sure to check luggage allowance on those flights from Dublin to London....it's very limited and quite costly if you exceed the allowance.....

dare I ask why you are changing planes and airlines in Dublin rather than fly direct to London?

I think you'd find things a great deal easier if you could change your ticket to Dublin in favour of one to London Heathrow instead.

Maybe the OP wants to avail of the preclearance at DUB on the return.

Either way because not many people are travelling at the moment (in Ireland we are not allowed to travel abroad for non essential reasons) not many will have recent experience. I would err on the side of caution with self connecting flights at the moment as there will probably be extra time needed going through passport control on arrival.
