Local pubs
Save

We are looking at a visit to Dublin for 2 -3 days in September then off to Munich for Oktoberfest. We, d like to have a few at some "local"pubs as well as some of the Temple bar type of pubs. Any suggestions on local pubs would be greatly appreciated. We haven't decided on where to stay yet......thinking about the downtown area.

Thx

Here’s a few of what I would call ‘local’ pubs in and around the city centre (in no particular order), and yes, I have drank in them all, on many occasions. :)

Some decent advice above.

And you might also enjoy Toners Pub.

Well, here's hoping you will be able to enjoy a pint while wearing a face mask...

Take a little trip just outside the city centre to The Gravediggers (http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20161019-where-gravediggers-drank-their-pints for example).

What do you consider a local pub on that is in the middle of town and not local to anybody really or one out in the outskirts how about Lows of Dolphins Barn that has been a local for over 50 years to some people.

Wrappido...I consider a local pub to be one that is not in a tourist area .It would be a pub that has a local clientele on a regular basis in a mostly residential area and the bartender knows your name and your drink . My local pub ( McGonagall's) is 2 blocks from my house in a mostly residential area and at any given time I will know several others drinking there. This is what I consider a "local "pub

Enjoy

Slatterys of Grand Canal St fits the bill. About 20 min outside the city centre. Here’s hoping they all open again after the restrictions.

I really like L. Mulligan Grocer in Stoneybatter. Though it's basically a gastropub rather than a "local" pub.

Try to go to one of the "early houses" - pubs that, are licensed to open very early in the morning. This was to allow them to meet local work practices so Hughes of Chancery Street and Slatterys of Capel Streer are great local pubs near the old fruit and veg market/courts. The Windjammer is on Lombard Street near the old docks. There is no telling what the future will be for many pubs after being locked down for over a year in many cases so be sure to check back in closer to your travel date.

The doors have closed on The Metro in Parnell Street.

An early house I enjoyed back in the sixties.

Fond memories.
