Reading to Stonehenge

IS there an easy way to get to Stonehenge from Reading without renting a car for the day? On a Sunday if that makes a difference.

On what date do you plan to travel? Will you return to Reading after visiting Stonehenge? Do you plan to make the journey as a solo traveller or will you visit with a larger party of adults and children under age 15? The details matter in order to sort out rail tickets from Reading to Salisbury and to an unknown destination thereafter.

Reading to Salisbury will take about an hour on the train with a change at Basingstoke with services once an hour. From Salisbury use local transport: www.thestonehengetour.info

Yes pretty easy, one chagne at Basingstoke and then the Stonehenge bus departs from outside the station. Salisbury is also worth some time, nice small city.

Old Sarum in Salisbury, or just outside Salisbury, is also worth visiting.

So long as this isn't for 17th September * ....

Take the train from Reading to Basingstoke and change for a train to Salisbury. Take the Stonehenge Tour bus from Salisbury Station.

* 17th September: massive engineering work blockade at Reading.

Thanks for the replies. In town for work and have a free (alone) weekend day. Just a quick trip down and back since it is pretty close. Lunch in Salisbury wouldn't be a bad idea either. Any idea what time the first tour bus leaves Salisbury station?

Try Horseman coaches, they are based in Reading.

Or you could try Weavaway of Newbury or Morton's of Tadley.
