I need to ship 2 extra suitcases home from Fukuoka to California. Any ideas on the cheapest method? Sea freight is fine. Doesn’t need to be that quick.
For postal service which is usually the cheapest, there is maximum size / weight restriction.
For sea freight, you have to find a freight forwarder, usually located somewhere outside tourist area. You have to pay for pick up, or deliver the bags yourself to the forwarder. There is also the issue of minimum charge, additional packaging, ...Edited: 2 years ago
Really agree w luggage option. Shipping is a logistical and costly challenge!
Get boxes from the post office and send the items by surface mail. The post office just south of the Hakata train station is open all night. You can get package sealing tape at Daiso (in the bus terminal building just north of the Hakata train station). Surface mail travels by ship and will take about 2 months to reach the USA.
Be strategic and put heavy items in your luggage, but don't exceed the airline's weight limit.
