Advice Caprivi to Western Zambia, crossing at Katima

I plan to self drive a vehicle from Windhoek up to Zambia, via Rundu, and crossing into Zambia at Katima Mulilo. Have to go up for 50 Km on Mongu Road in Barotse land. Hired vehicles crossing borders is a problem - is there any taxi/transport facilities to take two people from Katima for the 50 km into Zambia and leave the vehicle for a few days at Katima? Also, any suggestions on places to stay in Caprivi?

Most hire firms in Windhoek allow cross border travel to adjacent countries. They will supply written consent and appropriate documentation on request.

However you will face some border bureaucracy so if you are only going for a short time you may prefer to take some form of local transport. Shuttles run to Livingstone but you may have to go private for Barotseland and will be expected to pay for the drivers keep while he is with you.

Places to stay in Caprivi deserve a separate thread there are so many.

Traveling west to east I skip Rundu, coming up from Grootfontein (Roys Camp) to Divundu. Nunda Camp is very good , then KM next stop unless you wish to visit lodges on the Kwando.
