Scotrail has announced that no trains will operate in Scotland on Friday 24th January 2025, as a Weather Alert has been issued.
The whole of Scotland, and the far North of England, is covered by an Amber Weather Warning. This is escalated to a Red Warning in the Central Belt.
Alternative road transport WILL NOT be provided.
In England, train operators are advising people "Do Not Travel" north of York or Preston. No services will operate north of Newcastle. In Wales, passengers are advised "Do Not Travel" on the North Wales Coast Line. Again, where a "Do Not Travel" advisory is in place, alternative road transport is NOT provided.
Disruption may affect a wider area, especially routes across the Pennines to and from Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield and some secondary lines may also be closed.
On routes affected, tickets dated 24th January will be accepted for travel today, Thursday 23rd January, and on Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th January.
