Where to go for a short break end of January

Hi, I need advice please for a short break (4 nights) towards the end of January for my partner and I

- not too long flight from UK (LHR, LGW, Southampton or Bournemouth)

- warm

- cute old place with atmosphere, not a huge hotel or resort development

- beach nice but not essential

- not too hilly (partner has difficulty waking too far)

- cheap - less than £300pp flight and hotel

it's difficult to find anything on the usual websites as there is a preponderance of big resorts and hotels, and they don't tend to show you the locality apart from beaches

Thanks for any suggestions

That’s a very low budget for somewhere with reliable sunshine.

Have a look at sites like TUI where you can key in dates, countries, length of stay etc. As to location, southern Spain might work but fine weather isn’t guaranteed. Possibly the Canaries but that might break the budget.

Disappointed at the lack of replies here. Am I the only one on a low budget? Anyway I thought I’d tell you what we found. I wasn’t liking the offerings from package companies because I don’t want to go to a resort or anywhere over-developed. I’m very happy with what we found

Ryanair Bournemouth to Malaga

Car hire

Apartment in Almuñécar (1 hour east of Malaga)

5 nights, 2 people, £250 each for flights, car and accommodation

Apparently (from a friend who’s been there) alumnecar has everything I want - old buildings, atmosphere, cheap good food, beach, not many tourists, 20 degrees - sounds perfect!

You are not. But as a global forum, all we mostly see is rant/complaint posts about travel agencies. It is indeed rare to see a question asking about how to go about searching ... And now there are 3 of them. I am happy you found something.

Just to note, Luke S / LukeInBournemouth, you are using 2 screen names and accounts. You may want to contact TA staff and get them merged.
