Beware Optiontown Air Asia.

I would like to share my experience as a warning to others. I have used Optiontown over the last 3 years with Air Asia and have been successful a few times but was not informed until 4 hours before each flight. You are told not to check in online as it may effect your upgrade decision, this then makes it difficult packing as you will not know if you have the extra luggage allowance. The times I was not upgraded, I was refunded but not within the 5 business days as stated.

This last time with flights from Melbourne to KL I was notified by email 4 hours before flights that ( Upgrade pending subject to availability. Please check status with AirAsia X staff at Melbourne airport ) . This means you have to wait right up until everyone has boarded/checked in and then if there is a spare business class seat or empty seats you may be lucky. We had to wait in line at the customer service counter each time in Melbourne and at KL and explain to the staff what was supposed to happen, they did not understand and just really could not be bothered. The real disappointment is the customer service from Optiontown I have received with emails back and forth due to the fact you are told if not successful you will be refunded within 5 business days, it is now day 13 and no refund. I have been given very lame responses such as ( We would like to inform you that we have already forwarded your request to concern department to check your refund and revert you soon as the needful is done ) and ( We would like to advise you that we have processed the refund to your original mode of payment account) I have contacted my back and no payment has been received.

Please also have a look on their facebook page and you will see the long list of complaints of money not being refunded and then look at other reviews/comments on trip advisor. There are a lot of very disappointed customers out there. I will not be using them again and just hope I get my money back !!

Will keep this thread updated as to the outcome for others interested.

Day 13 and still no refund.

This was sent to me 3 days ago ( We would like to advise you that we have processed the refund to your original mode of payment account.) after not receiving the money and contacting my bank I emailed again asking when the payment was made at to what account the reply.

Please note the transaction details below:

Transaction ID#: 3JV80525UW787273T

Refund Amount: $432.00 AUD

And no surprise still no payment. My question was not answered either. All delay tactics.

If you've only been sent confirmation of refund 3 days ago you need to give it a little more time.

As much as I agree payments should be processed in a timely manner, I think you will find for the rest of your complaints, the reason you are getting the upgrade so cheap is because it's a last minute upgrade when they have been unable to sell the seat. Obviously this can only be done at the last minute,

If you want notice, pay the full price. You really can't have it all ways for goodness sake.

There terms are you are told you will be refunded within 5 days it has been 13 days, so I have given them more than 3 days. Also the terms are you will be informed 1 -3 days before your flight and no later than 4 hours before your flight, so I do not think it is okay to wait right up until boarding when you are not informed of that being the case. The upgrades are not cheap by the way I am waiting on a refund of $876 AUD.

In your first post you say you were informed 4 hours before your flight so I don't see really see what your complaint is here. Of course, the slow refund is a different matter.

My problem is I was informed 4 hours before my flight ( Upgrade pending subject to availability. Please check status with AirAsia X staff at Melbourne airport ) so you are not in fact notified with a final response until boarding and this is not stated in their terms and conditions.

The upgrades are cheap in comparison to the full price seats.

Booking with Optiontown is a risk. It's like buying a lottery ticket. The costs of the ticket are by far outweighed by the potential reward. Setting aside the delay in receiving the refund which is a request and justifiable complaint, when I register for Optiontown for an upgrade which I have done with and without success, I pay for luggage and Hot Seats and include that in the cost of the upgrade. I work on the basis that if I do not get the upgrade I have both luggage and seats of choice already in place. Yes, you get extra luggage allowance bout I'm prepared to forego that cost in comparison with the still considerable saving if the upgrade is successful. On a return flight from Perth we had not been informed of an upgrade when we had to leave for the airport and I did not do OLCI as instructed. We waited patiently in line with the other Economy ax and it was only when we were given our boarding passes and checked the seat numbers as we walked away that we realised that we had been upgraded.

Yes I have also always still purchased seats and luggage I just wanted others to be aware that this happens. Air Asia business class seats are significantly cheaper at full price than others, as they are basically a no frills one with a larger seat, so the extra I would have paid if successful would be still quite a large amount.
