We found this restaurant en route to a visit to the West Coast National Park...just a few miles on a dirt/gravel road outside of Darling and we were at Groote Post vineyard and Hilda's restaurant.....what a fabulous surprise...the place was built in 1706 and Hilda's kitchen was named after Hildegarda Duckitt, a food legend on the West Coast in her... This restaurant is located on the beautiful Groote Post wine farm in Darling owned by the Pentz family. The old Manor house is filled with stunning antiques and this gives it old world charm. There are separate dining areas both inside and outside so a party group can have their own private space. The food is beautifully prepared and presented.... More

What a great meal. The setting is amazing. The restaurant is set in an old farm building and decorated as such. The decor really helps you feel like you ah e stepped back into an old African home Olive Schreiner style. The starters were tasty. The caramelized onion and blue cheese tart was delicious as was the cured meat platter.... More

We've been buying Groote Post prize-winning wines and eating at Hilda's Kitchen for years. The years change, the menu varies, but the quality is always excellent. Old house atmosphere inside and shady tables on the terrace. Driving in, one can often see eland, bontebok and other antelopes and ostriches if they are nearby. In our experience staff have always been... More

Absolutely beautiful drive from the West Coast highway on a somewhat rugged dirt road - but a great trip nevertheless. The Groote Post farm is sublime and the restaurant venue authentic Cape farmstead. I can only but think that we must have caught the proprietor on a bad day, as after barking at other customers who arrived with the audacity... More

We had a fantastic Sunday Lunch. The food quality was excellent and the setting fantastic. The only problem is that they do not sell their delicious Rose' other than on Market days. We will need to go back!

We had lunch at this renowned restaurant and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and we could taste the freshness of the ingredients that were perfectly prepared and served. We ate lunch on the terrace on a lovely spring afternoon and then had the bonus of enjoying and photographing the flowers in Groote Post's fields while driving back to... More

We thought we'd taste some wine at Groote Post, since we love their wine, on our Namaqua flower trip. Ended up having wonderful meal at Hilda's and seeing the best flowers of the entire trip! Old man's steak roll highly (all mains were great, but steak roll was extra special with a lovely garlic sauce on the side) recommended as... More

No self respecting establishment should serve processed meat. Unfortunately that is what the kids chicken burger was....a processed, crumbed, fried chicken patty. In a place like this, it is not something we expected when we ordered. Our food was very nice, the service friendly and the setting was lovely. So if food for your kids should not be sub-standard, order... More

This was my second visit to Groote Post wine estate and after having a delicious meal with my grandparents, we made another booking. Although the menu is small (something I prefer... Rather do a few things well than a lot of average.) the dishes served are done to perfection. The leg of lamb was perfectly cooked and rounded off with... More
