Had not booked but Carol made a plan. Cats were friendly and cuddled up. Mussels were excellent but found the lighting and the music not great. In a small room with 4 tables and no music it was no longer romantic but awkward. I restarted the music.

Although I don't particularly like cats, the owner has made this a quaint location. The cuisine was lovely. As we sat backatisfied that we hab made an excellent choice the owner suggested we try her home made ice cream. We had a tasting of three variants with exquisite flavours . I love my ice cream desert - this was five... More

The menu changes seasonally, but is always extremely reasonable. The combination with a curio shop means that there is plenty to look at when eating indoors, although the local felines are not allowed in the dining rooms. It's so rare to receive food that is piping hot that it's always noticeable when this happens. One of the few restaurants that... More

This lovely quaint restaurant has been owned by one owner (Carol) for the last 20 years, the building is a National Monument, what a treat to be sitting and dining in such a historical building. History aside Carol has a passion for Cats, there are pictures and parafinalia all over the restaurant, if you love Cats and good food then... More

This is such a beautiful restaurant, it has a wonderful atmosphere with amazing cuisine, made with love. The décor is lovely, historic, yet not too old fashioned. The cat room is definitely a novelty and so cute.

We stopped at Readers for lunch and experienced extremely slow service despite there only being on other couple in the restaurant at the time. It seemed to me to be more a matter of poor management than incompetent staff. The food was very tasty, though, once it came. We enjoyed Lamb Strudel, Smoked Salmon Trout and Smoked Chicken with Melons.... More

The oldest house in Church Street , Tulbagh – Readers.
Offering simple, outstanding local and global cuisine, has been able to maintain a standard of excellence that has created a notable reputation with both locals and tourists.
The cuisine varies on a daily basis depending on the availability of fresh produce. This provides Carol Collins – Silwood trained Cordon Bleu Chef -a certain challenge in ensuring the creation of dishes using imagination, flair and superb presentation. Certain dishes have become trademarks at Readers but the focus remains on variety, fusion of flavours and combination of unusual ingredients.
