We had travelled down to our hotel which took ages. Once we arrive we checked in and asked was there anywhere local to get something to eat and we were told about the plough. Upon entering we were greeted by a very welcoming and friendly member of staff who showed us to a table shortly after our drinks and food order was taken. We didn't have to wait long for our meal which were really nice plus a good portion size and really well priced. All the staff were very friendly. If I had one little criticism it would be the price of the drinks from what I am use to paying I thought was a little on the expense side.

A last minute booking for a meal for 4 adults and 3 children. By the look of it we were lucky to get in. Pub was busy as was the garden as it was a lovely sunny day. We sat in the garden. Drinks came quickly and when it was time to order food we were told there would be a 30 minute wait. This really wasn't a problem as the garden is a pleasant place to sit on a sunny day. When the food did arrive, a mixture of Sunday roasts, fish and chips, and children's meals it was excellent quality. I found the waiting staff young but friendly and helpful. All in all, a great afternoon.

This was our first visit here for quite a while as our last was a disaster and the improvement is really fantastic. This was a birthday party and family get together with adults and children. The service owing to Covid was of course table service but was very attentive and efficient. 19 portions of food came out of the kitchen within minutes and were all served hot. The vegetables were crunchy and hot not the usual stewed mess served in many pubs. Crispy roast potatoes and real gravy. The roast beef was well cooked and was sirloin not the usual dry overcooked topside again served in many pubs. The whole party enjoyed the food. The drinks were not over priced and the whole Covid management of the pub was very professional allowing a high standard of service from very friendly and efficient staff members. We will return.

I booked this up for myself and my two daughters as we wanted to try local and support the village pubs in these hard times and in hope after trying it for a reasonable price due to the eat out help out scheme we could recommend it to others and return back on another day . Unfortunately that won’t happen , I didn’t really feel any warm welcome from anyone and we had at least three different waitresses , The waiting to order took way too long , So the only upside of that was by the time they ordered our drinks we’d already decided on what we were going to eat so ordered drinks and mains at the same time , Food wait was wasn’t too bad but we did get there early . Food wasn’t anything to rave about I’m afraid we only had pub classic Ham , eggs and chips and fish and chips I’ve had a lot better and certainly wouldn’t of wanted to pay full price for what it was , No one table checked us between our meal and as I said previously we never had the same waitress , We finished took a good while to collect plates said we’d like to order desert and literally at this point got so bored of waiting for her to come back to order we got up and asked for the bill at which point they asked if everything had been ok , which that is all it was just ok I’m afraid . I definitely would never go back which is a shame as we often walk dog nearby . We didn’t use the toilet facilities so can’t comment on that and table were a good distance away from each other and hand sanitizer available .

The menu that you see on the website is not the same as the one in the pub. There are no specials available - cant see why. When I asked about this I was told that they were having trouble uploading the new menu onto the website. The food that we ordered was fine though. We said we would like desert, but after waiting for about 30 minutes we gave up and asked for the bill. That was the wrong amount, I asked them to reprint it but was told they could not reprint it?? So they just altered the total. Wrong amount again so I was given a menu to work it out myself. The staff were polite but all very young and spent a lot of time talking to each other up at the bar area and looking at phones. I know times are difficult but this does not encourage people to spend money - attentiveness to customers needs doesn't cost anything. Will not recommend to friends or be visiting again.

I really hate to write anything negative in this day and age as I fully appreciate the problems of supply and staffing suffered by the leisure industry. However when prices rise and one is spending on a limited budget low quality poorly cooked food is not good. We were here for dinner as a group of friends and all had two courses starter and main. The reaction from all to the starters was that they were OK but not of a particularly high standard and were a bit bland and tasteless. My main was a slow roast pork belly and this was dry tasteless and had obviously been sitting around for quit a while. My friends said that the stroganoff was bland and the Burger OK . The waitress who served us was very attentive but quite slow and obviously new. The Manageress was efficient friendly and was moving round helping in all areas. I would suggest that the problem is in the sourcing of the food and the kitchen preparation. I would normally have approached the management at the time but I did not hear about the others opinions until the next day. The food was edible but not memorable. We will give this place another go as on previous occasions we have had very passable food and encountered very friendly staff and good service.

Arrived at 18.00 specifically to sample the Ploughman's platter which I had previously much enjoyed there. After waiting to be seated, the server told me chef could not do the Ploughman's after 18.00, so politely asked if an exception could be made in view of distance travelled and previous good experience. Server apparently asked and returned saying it could not be done, left me with the menus, only for me inquire again to someone else 15 minutes later about ordering and then be told the original server had gone home. So, disconcerted at the delay, asked again if an exception could be made for my order and after 2 requests to the kitchen a marvellous Ploughman's platter arrived! Thanks to the server who got a result for me! Decent pint too and left happily.

Very disappointing. There were quite a few things from the menu shown online missing, we were told these were specials not on since COVID 19, why I don’t know. Then we were told there were not any steaks, finished by 1 o’clock lunchtime. The meat pie was very dry, the mash had a strange taste, dry and not fresh, vegetables under cooked with an unfresh taste too. The fish and chips were good, though very thick batter. The toilets were grubby, the hot water tap not working. The portions are very large, but smaller portions of good quality food would be much better. The prices are high, but with the 10% off, made it passable. All in all, very mediocre food, certainly can’t be called “gastro” at inflated prices.

Large pub with self distance tables.Large garden with climbing frame for children. All had sandwiches, stale bread with hardly any filling. When waitress asked us how our meal was she replied she would tell the chef! Cigarette ends under table and toilet needed a good clean.

Okay we didn’t book but was met with a very negative ‘you can stay but we need you out in an hour’ wish we’d just walked out at that point. Front of house waitress was just rude and very blunt. Asked if kids meal included chips and peas (menu just said sausages and £7 is a bit steep for 2 small sausages 😄). Waitress said yes. Fine. Took ages for drinks and menus despite being under the 1 hour window! Food was literally slapped down on the table and the waiter just walked off. Had to ask for sauces, a steak knife for the steak….and then where are the kids peas? Que front of house stomping over to ask ‘what is the problem?’ explained we wanted peas, she said they didn’t come with it….blah blah. Begrudgingly went back and 10 minutes later a bowl of boiling hot peas arrived. Roast was okay, steak was underdone and no one asked us how our meals were. Sorry to say it but the service is just appalling. Echo comments here about kids waiting on. They really don’t have a clue and it’s clear no one really cares about them. Feel very sorry for them. Oh and they had the cheek to try and charge me £2 for a very small portion of peas!!!! Won’t be going back.

Large elderly multi-roomed pub currently going through some sort of refurbishment involving a lot of wooden slats. Hence man with nailgun punctuating my lunch every 30 seconds (but I appreciated the apology). All the usual pub favourites are on the menu, and cooked and presented quite adequately. My burger was decent quality and the fries were a slightly higher level than the usual catering pack fare. Mrs EPR had the fish and chips, and the choice of size was useful, whilst the removal of the skin before frying was helpful too. Tartare sauce seemed just like a pot of mayonnaise with a few flecks of, hopefully, capers. Desserts just as workmanlike. My chocolate pudding was basically a muffin although Mrs EPR's creme brulee actually did look the part. So my mind was not blown - particularly as the Plough's website refers to itself as a gastropub producing first class food produced by award -winning chefs. Based on our experience, that's just marketing puff. Separately, the garden did seem popular (more so than the lifeless indoor bar), and the girls working the tables were very pleasant and helpful whilst there is plenty of room in the car park. But I wouldn't bother again

Went late afternoon for a meal with friends and all of us agreed on wonderful food. Very covid safe distancing, perhaps a smaller choice than usual on the menu but enough choice for normal, vegan and kids meals. Portions were plentiful, from the white bait to the ratatouille dip, and the homemade pie if the day (best ever according to the 2 men) and homemade fishcakes which were the best I have ever had; absolutely no hesitation in recommending. Large garden if you prefer the outdoors. All of the staff were very courteous and helpful and we will certainly return.

The slow roasted pork belly was pork belly slices which were flashed in the oven for twenty minutes, no seasoning and the pieces not even separated so half were pale and flacid. The mash was literally potatoes mashed, again unseasoned no milk or butter. The buttered greens was actually a mix of broccoli and kale with no butter. My wife had the baked Camembert cheese with toasted ciabatta slices. The ciabatta was a part baked roll cooked in the oven and sliced, not toasted. The server explained the roll was “toasted “ in the oven. I asked if they had agency chefs in and was told they had been here for years but it was the head chefs night off. Suffice to say I only paid for the wine and the cheese and will be giving this place a wide berth in future….. but make your own mind up.

It was a warm Sunday lunchtime and most tables outside were full and inside there were many large groups. We ordered a couple of burgers and sides. And waited and waited. After 45 minutes we enquired about our lunch and were told there's a 45 minute wait on food orders. That wasn't mentioned when we ordered. More time passed. At the one hour 15 minute mark we asked again (many other diners were complaining too) and were told 'five minutes'. Lunch arrived one hour and 45 minutes after ordering. There were plenty of waiting staff - maybe a shortage in the kitchen? A 50% discount was agreed after some argument. Best go on a cold rainy day, I think.

Having ordered hot food we were then told ten minutes later that there was a problem with the gas and/or cooker so only sausages and mash were available. There was then an exodus from a lot of other people when they were told. We settled for sandwiches. As someone said in a review recently "the staff need to stop chatting amongst themselves and concentrate on the customers".
