What a great find the Village Shop and cafe is. We went there today for a Sunday breakfast after being recommended by friends. We both had the Big Dicker breakfast. Substituting Fried Bread for Toast was not a problem at all. The Cafe was licensed, so the temptation was to be decadent and have a red wine with breakfast - Sadly my wife persuaded me that I should exchange the word 'decadent' with 'raging alcoholic', so I stuck with coffee, and an excellent coffee it was. Also on offer was lunch served until 1430 - A cosy, well managed, cafe, where you dont feel ripped off with the costs. Also, I should mention local produce bacon, eggs and sausages. All round excellent.

The Upper Dicker Village Shop & Cafe is our go-to place for a lovely lunch and wonderful deserts at the weekend. The welcome is always warm, the atmosphere is very social and you get a strong community feeling. People know each other and there are many happy hellos. The food and drinks menu offers a great variety. The food is great for vegetarians, vegans and others alike. There is also a great children's choice, and there are always great specials on the board as well. If you still have room for more after your filling main, the desert selection is very yummy. You won't regret it.

Popped in here on our way to Eastbourne for a spot of breakfast. Absolutely delicious and made even better by the friendly staff. If there could be any feedback I could give other than fabulous and we’ll definitely be back it’s that the toast came already buttered. My error for not asking for dry toast. I’d like to know where I can buy the sausages as they were extremely tasty.

We try to visit at least once a week for a scrummy breakfast or lunch. The cakes are delicious & the staff are always warm and helpful. Last week, we were chatting to people sat beside us and singing Happy Birthday with everyone else when staff bought out their breakfast with a candle.
It’s always a treat to visit…

We sat outside for a really good breakfast here: me, hubby and youngest. I had the 'Green Booster' with bacon, and mushrooms instead of tomato; they had the 'Big Dicker'. The place has a great, bustling, friendly atmosphere and feels welcoming.
I love the 'Garden breakfast' at Bill's, so was hoping this would be as good. Well I wasn't disappointed! it was amazing: perfectly pached eggs, lovely leaves, and paradisiacal Pesto!. Awesome avocado, magical mushrooms and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce completed this brilliant breakfast! Worth £9.50.
The Big Dickers were also good. A little on the pricey side for our liking at £11.50 but we knew that beforehand, so can't complain.
The only slightly niggly thing was the man, who I assume to be the owner, who kept coming out and singing very loudly when someone on the nearby green's food was ready. He needed to shout - since the little green/park area was about 25 yards away and they don't take food to tables over there - but not right outside the door, next to customers at the tables there. He was wonderfully eccentric and friendly and my eating companions didn't mind (our son liked him), but I found it a little jarring after a while, especially when a young male waiter started doing it too! I'll put that down to me being overly sensitive though. Perhaps they could take phone numbers of customers who wanted to sit at the tables in the little park and call them when their food was ready.. Or just walk away from the tables immediately outside the cafe so the customers at those tables don't get blasted with the loudest part of enthusiastic singing every 5 minutes..
Overall, very enjoyable dining experience and we will visit again some time (I'll bring ear muffs! :D )

This shop is on Wealdway, the long distance walking trail between Dartford and Eastbourne. I stumbled across it by chance on a very hot summer afternoon and was delighted with the iced elderflower served. A full report is in my video “ Wealdway day 6” on my YouTube channel 1066walker. It is possible to have a table inside or out and there is a very pleasant ambiance about the place. For those arriving by car parking looked easy and there is level access for wheelchair users.

Lived in Uckfield for many many years and thought had been to most places in the area. This cafe was suggested to us and never knew it was there. Turning in to park was greeted with the most beautiful looking cafe shop. The inside did not disappoint and a really lovely ambience. Our table of 5 had an assortment of cooked breakfast brunches and lunch meals, all tasty and quality ingredients. Friendly staff and tea was good too. Great selection of cakes and we all took away one each. Will be back again and good outside seating for the warmer weather.

We haven't visited for a least four years and were pleased to find its still as good as our first visit. Parking for disabled is not easy.
We couldn't fault the food, drinks, friendliness of the staff or our Little Dicker breakfasts which were excellent, with good quality meaty sausages, unsmoked bacon and large eggs. Maybe the bubble and squeak could have had a bit more green veg. but overall it was all delicious 😋. Just like I cook at home.
There is also a good selection of fresh rolls, breads and cakes on offer.
The seating is a bit rustic and really doesn't encourage you to linger. It would be a little more comfortable if there was some heating on to help keep the area by the door warm, on what was a frosty minus 2C day outside. We kept our winter coats on whilst there.
Overall its a lovely village store / cafe, full of character so often missing in the era of fast food places.

We loved it so much here that we visited twice in one day! We are on holiday for a few days and it was recommended to us. Dan greeted us in his unique, funny and friendly style. We felt so welcome! We had gluten free coffee cake mid-morning and returned for a late lunch in the afternoon. My husband had home made leek & potato soup platter which came with a gluten free cheese toastie and salad (it was huge!) and I had halloumi, avocado and pesto salad (which was also huge!) and we ate every scrap. We also had wine and cider.
The shop part is also fab. We bought gluten free biscuits and fresh veg. They sell all sorts of useful things.
Thanks for brightening our holiday Dan!

We went for brunch on the Saturday and it was very busy as they do takeaway too. Sat outside in the lovely sunshine so not a problem we had to wait a bit longer than usual. When we went back on the Monday it was much quieter so it was quicker service.
But the food was fantastic. I did a build a brunch both days, with black pudding, eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and yummy bubble and squeak. Loads more on offer too!

Every weekend we go out for a breakfast to someone new, a throw away comment from a friend led me to this place as we’ve started to exhaust local-ish options.
What a fantastic place this is, warm welcome, lovely food and a characterful setting.
We just wished we’d discovered it sooner!

We live in a small town and although we have lots of cafes there are none that we repeatedly want to go to. Then we discovered The Village shop and Cafe. We had lunch. I am having problems with my appetite but they were happy to give us an extra plate so I could eat some of my husband's lunch. I actually are more here than usual. It is as delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a lovely friendly atmosphere. We plan to make it a weekly visit whenever possible. It was only my Husband and I that went but noticed families and dogs were there. We loved it.

This is one of our favourite spots for breakfast in East Sussex. It’s a fairly small space so you sometimes have to wait for a table but it’s certainly worth it! The staff are wonderful, incredibly friendly and lots of fun. The cafe has a very light hearted atmosphere that makes you feel immediately welcome. The food is also amazing, their menu has a brilliant range of choice and the build-your-own options mean you can have exactly what you want!
Highly recommend!

Eating a superbly cooked lunch amid the comings and goings of a village store is an absolute delight. Beautifully cooked food and staff who are friendly, helpful and cheerful. This is a great place and should not be missed. P.S. Try the stunning homemade cakes!

Lovely lunch here mid week with a friend. Eaten here many times and always great selection. Could not resist the asparagus, pea and pesto quiche which was sublime. Lovely fresh salad and coleslaw it was so good. The cakes always look and taste amazing it’s hard to choose from the full counter. I went for ginger cake - the best bit of ginger cake I’ve ever had. Yum yum yum 😋
